Kinja'd!!!

My CPU fan failed again. It only seems to happen when I turn on my computer from sleep mode, and oddly enough, only on Tuesdays. If I restart, it usually starts working again. I have no clue what the issue could be, other than something maybe in the BIOS or something causing it to not turn on when it resumes?

Using custom fan profiles? Could be too low speed, so it’s unable to start spinning up from a standstill after sleeping.

Nope, haven’t messed with the fan speeds. And it resumes fine most of the time, except for Tuesdays. I checked, I made a post on Oppo complaining about it last week as well. So I have no clue what this problem could be.

Do you have the latest BIOS loaded on your motherboard? Set your computer to hibernate and not sleep and see if it still does it on wakeup. I know it doesn’t happen consistently, but if it happens during hibernation then it’s a hardware issue more than likely.

Going to try an update right now. I’ll let you know next Tuesday if that fixed it.

Try clearing the cmos or it could be a bad header. Otherwise check for bios updates.

Updating the BIOS now.

The fan speed on my iMac got messed up after I opened it to replace the hard drive. Pretty sure it’s because I messed up the temperature sensor tacked to the HD. Is it possible you could have a bad sensor?

If that were the case, it would happen more frequently, right? This only happens once on Tuesdays.

Tuesdays, is there any Microsoft updates that are installed before this occurs?

Not usually, no. I had some install on a Saturday a week and a half ago, but that would cause problems every day, not just Tuesdays.

Yeah, that’s true. If it was just a wake from sleep thing, that could still be it, but the Tuesday thing...I got nothing. It’s probably our computer overlords messing with you.

Only 87c? While under load my laptop naturally reaches 96c. Which is why it’s getting retired soon. Also look on the bright side, you might have to get an afternarket cooler that cools better

Time to grab yourself a sata to fan header adapter and bypass the motherboard.
