Hopefully he figures a way to roll back the V6's without bankrupting anyone. With all the money Merc, Ferrari, Renault and Honda have put into R&D Ross can’t simply change the engines over night.

If only somebody had a massive supply of these engines with literally no other use for them ....

There is a very simple and easy way, I’ve heard other fans here suggest it as well, but I’ve never heard it from any voices that might actually be heard. Eliminate all the engine rules, and replace them with a simple rule that says the Motor must produce X many HP measured at the wheels on a rolling dyno. With a rule like that teams can get very flexible in budgeting their engine development or sourcing, but regardless of how much they spend they will not have any significant advantage in terms of HP over the other teams. They may develop other advantages, like better packaging, lower weight, lower CG and so on. It would draw manufactures to the series as they could develop motors that appeal to their business model. To often Manufactures leave F1 because they are locked into developing a product that is of little relevance to anything else they do.

I think it would be incredible to listen to a variety of different motors out on track. Much like going to an historic car race where you can identify the cars often before you see them. Ahhh hear that flat 12, must be a Ferrari... Ohhh sounds like a Rotory, must be a Mozda. Ahhh a rumbling V8, must be a Ford Cosworth, or a Chaparral. OK yes I’m getting a little nostalgic, but the point is it would open things up to the inventiveness and ingenuity of the past that Made F1 so great, while keeping competition close.

Now that you say that I do remember someone, somewhere suggesting that concept. It would be awesome, I love the idea of letting the manufactures have more freedom. As long as the FIA or whoever could police the HP limits that would be the way to go in my eyes.

Only Policing issue I see is a VW style cheat code in their software. With Mobile Dynos these days it should be no problem to take some dynos to every track and verify the HP during the pre-race inspection. The policing of SW is already an issue with things like traction control and so on, so I don’t see that as too much of an issue, that has not already been addressed.
