On Inauguration Day, I was listening to NPR (I’m such a Socialist) and they interviewed a Trump supporter on the Mall in DC. She said that she was looking forward to to Trump’s presidency because Trump was going to cut her tax rate from 35% to 15%, and she was looking forward to having 20% more money in her pocket. I’m no CPA, and I don’t know much about tax code, but I don’t think that’s how any of this works.

Also, I’d eat my hat if she was anywhere near the 35% income tax bracket. In my experience, the majority of people who cheer income tax cuts rarely ever actually benefit from them (and usually get hurt by them), because they don’t earn enough to be in the brackets getting a cut. For a huge swath of people, complaining about income tax iseither a lifestyle choice, driven by ignorance, or both.

There is no such thing as a cheap shot in a street fight. You gotta be the firstest with the mostest. Nazi homeboy was obviously a chicken shit. Who get hit in the face and then runs away?

That cut is only for the corporate tax rate. If that person was middle to upperclass, then she’s going to be in for a real shock because their taxes are going up slightly.

This wasn’t a street fight, it was an attack. The full video shows that after the sucker punch, the attacker went one way while Spencer went another. What kind of person blindsides someone else then runs away? Who’s the bigger chicken here?

While he was at it, why didn’t the attacker go after the people who were giving Spencer the forum? Are they not just as culpable in spreading Spencer’s message?

I’m not a fan of Spencer, but he’s allowed to have his point of view and he is free to speak, just like the protesters holding up the sign and interrupting his interview. That’s what makes the United States a great place to live. In other places, people who are stirring the pot like Spencer get beaten to death, shot, or if they are speaking against the government, they just disappear.

You seem pretty invested in this nazi getting punched in the face. I couldn’t care less what happens to a nazi. I agree that hitting someone and running is lame. If you’re going to hit someone, you might as well cause some damage. Getting hit in the face and doing nothing shows you’re a bit of chump, but he’s a nazi and we already knew that. A street fight and “an attack” are one in the same.

I don’t know what America you’re referring to, but we have a looooong history of assaulting/killing/jailing people who speak out against both the government and society. The civil rights movement would provide the most obvious examples. We also have a long history of kicking the shit out of nazis.

Could you please clarify your stance in regards to your statement that a neo nazi such as Spencer is just “stirring the pot”.

Since you seem to be engaging at more than a superficial level, I’ll be happy to explain. I’d never heard of Spencer before your post. In fact, I had to reverse image search just to figure out who he was after you called him a nazi.

So, my stance in regards to my statement is pretty simple. I don’t think anybody should be committing random acts of violence even when it is against someone who is spewing hate. If you want to provide a counterpoint, do it in a civil manner. If you want to fight, do it fairly. Don’t be a wuss by taking a cheap shot then running away.

I agree about not running away in a fight, especially when you have the upperhand. Anything worth punching once is worth punching ten more times. In regards to fighting fairly, that’s the stuff of make believe. You should not be concerned with such things when engaging in a street fight. Agree to disagree on the stance that nazis shouldn’t be dealt with violently.

There’s a big difference between a “street fight” and punching and running. The former means that both parties are aware that punches are about to be thrown and both, at the very least, can be prepared to defend themselves. The latter means that one party is completely unaware of what is about to happen.

One is honorable. The other is not.

Kinja'd!!! "DipodomysDeserti" (dipodomysdeserti)
01/25/2017 at 10:41, STARS: 1

Your idea of fighting seems to be born out of watching movies. There’s nothing honorable about two adults exacting physical harm upon each other in the street. That’s make believe. If you’re trying to hurt someone (as you should be if you’re fighting them), then you don’t want them to defend themselves. That’s why you hit people with the aim of rendering them defenseless. There’s nothing honorable about violence. It’s a primal instinct which exists in most animals. It’s useful, and sometimes needed, but not honorable. The idea of violence being honorable is used to trick impressionable young people into doing things for those weaker than themselves.

I already said I agree that punching and running is dumb. If you’re going to punch someone once, you might as well stay to finish the job.

My attitude comes from being beaten by a group of punks when I was a kid. Yeah, they jumped me. Yeah, it was completely unexpected and it was unfair.

From what you have written, I believe that you would call it a “street fight.” You’re wrong. There was no fighting going on. It was the beating of a child by a bunch of cowards.

My attitude also comes from years of martial arts training. That’s where I learned the meaning of honor. It’s something that’s missing in today’s society. People laud the attacker, calling him righteous. They ignore the fact that in an act of cowardice, he attacked someone he didn’t like and ran away.

The same people who cheer for the attacker in this situation would be screaming in anger if it was their hero who was attacked. Imagine the reaction if it were Harry Reid or Chuck Schumer standing there instead of Spencer. A narrow point of view colors a person’s attitude towards events and inhibits their ability to see the bigger picture.

Fighting isn’t fair. The original purpose of developing martial arts was to create an unfair advantage for its practitioners. From a Japanese standpoint, honor was related to fighting for your master, not in offering a fair fight for your opponent. If you lost, it didn’t matter if the fight was fair, you were dishonored. Most martial arts studios in the US are meant as a form of exercise or discipline, not as a form of actual fighting. Not all, but most.

My attitude comes from being beaten by a group of punks when I was a kid. Yeah, they jumped me. Yeah, it was completely unexpected and it was unfair.

Now, obviously I have no idea the circumstances of you getting beat up. In my own experience, someone is not automatically a coward if they partake in a group beating of someone. I’ve seen people get beat up who most definitely deserved it, and any sense of martial honor would have been completely irrelevant to the situation. Neo Nazis, rapists, child molesters... Who gives a shit if the fight is fair. The goal isn’t to be fair, it’s to dispense street justice. Yes, it may be unexpected, but getting punched in the face is a good indication you’re now in a fight. Like I said twice already, I think it’s dumb to hit someone and run away.

You’re telling me things you think other people would say, and they’re not things I would say. I honestly wouldn’t give a shit if any of those people were punched in the face. If more people had to worry about getting punched in the face, they’d probably think a little harder about the things they say and do. Harry Reid was an amateur boxer and worked in mines with his dad, he’d probably throw hands. I’m apolitical as far as the American paradigm of left vs right is concerned. I’ve had friends get surprised by punches, and our response usually involved chastising them for having their head up their ass.
