I’ve often considered electric cutouts just for fun, but I suspect I’d get in a bit of trouble. The Chevelle’s already pretty loud when you open it up; having a switch to dump before the mufflers is just asking for trouble.

Please let us know it goes. I’m seriously toying with one of these just so my wife doesn’t complain about it being loud all the time.

It would be awesome, but check your local laws. Technically they are illegal according to PA inspection laws.

Where do you put this? Right before the muffler, or further up?

I have run them on a few of my trucks. A few 350s, a 383 and a few 454s. They all pretty loud to start with, especially the 383 and 454s but it is fun to really open them up from time to time.

This on is going on a cammed and turbo Ford 300. It was already pretty loud with 3" pipe running back to a Flowmaster 40 series but again, it is fun to let it really breath from time to time.

I will put this about a foot before the muffler.

i considered this for a previous car i owned... the only thing that made me nervous was dumping exhaust right under the trunk. im certain id asphyxiate myself within a week or two.other option would be to include some side pipes out in front of the wheels. but that would look weird... a car with rear tail pipes AND side exhaust?

Technically they might be illegal, but if you don’t have inspections, does it really matter?

That 300 looks pretty OK for being old and neglected!

I’ve been considering rigging one of these up to the sport/comfort switch in the E55. Loud in sport, normal in comfort. It would be pretty easy but I have more fun and/or important things to do with that money first.

I want to put one on my truck... but as I think the raw exhaust would be a little much, I’d run it through a Super 10. Borla for civility, Super 10 for DAT NOISE

Just go straight pipe all the time. Mufflers are for quitters.

My great uncle restored a 39 Packard Business coupe and he made an exhaust cut out for it. It was a straight six with three on the tree. He did this back in the late 70's so it was not electric, just a lever that you pulled in the cab. After he passed away my dad got the car and I remember driving it, pulling the lever and shitting my pants from how loud it was. I thought I broke it!

I have one of these on my Camaro, it’s awesome. Just a flip of a switch to go from loud to racecar!

I’m also considering putting one just before the stock muffler on my Saabaru, so it can go from silent to audible.

They’re technically illegal here in Ohio too, but if you didn’t use them (too much) on the street, who would ever know? We don’t have inspections.

Interestingly, in Maine they are legal to have on the car (but not activate on the street), but you must pay for a permit so the state knows you have one. Presumably the last part is so when the police hear you being stupid loud and then pull you over later idling quietly, they know what’s the deal.
