I want to 4.9 5.0 swap a late model ranger

Kinja'd!!!

But not just any 5.0

Kinja'd!!!

The cobra jet 5.0, It is a bit expensive at 24K a engine. But If you build up a regular 5.0 to the same specs chances are you’ll be spending around the same amount and buying the engine complete lets me know how everything will fit allowing for finer finesse of the body.

Basically it’ll turn out looking and feeling like it left the ford plant with this engine. No warning lights, weird wobbly handling or major cleance issues.

I feel like the intake on the cobrajet would be easier to work with.

Just go to your local C&C and stay a safe distance from the crowd for a few minutes.

I thought about doing an engine swap in my B3000. I just couldn’t see spending $5k+ on a rebuilt engine that could easily double the power output. Even though I loved my truck, spending $24k+ on an engine swap in a machine that can be out-performed in just about every way by something else just seems crazy. On top of the engine swap, a Ranger will require major suspension & drive train upgrades to get the power to the ground. Maybe I’m thinking more with my wallet and not with my heart, but my bank account just screams NOOOOOO!!!! when I consider it.

I chose to let the old small truck do what it does best and bought a car that scratches the “go fast and corner” itch.

So is the crossplane crank, but that’s not the point, is it?

Wasn’t there someone here on Oppo who was planning a 5.0 swap on one of these? Or am I just misremembering the plans of the guy who was putting an explorer bumper on one?

I say do it! But stay true to the Lightning Bolt style! Minus the tali lights.

You’ll have to massage the inner fenders some, and maybe the firewall a tad.

You could also get an Edelbrock supercharged 5.0 Coyote for that much: http://www.autoanything.com/engines-components/edelbrock-supercharged-5-0l-coyote-crate-engine

And here’s me just sitting here wishing I could get a late-model manual 4x4 Ranger with a modern, efficient 4-cylinder engine instead of the ancient 3.slow or 4.0 V6s.

Considering that the front half of the frame and cross member are the same as a second gen explorer which could be equipped with a 5.0 from the factory, all the parts to bolt it in should be pretty easy to come buy. For not tremendous amounts of money, I imagine would could buy a ranger with a trashed engine, pickup an explorer with a 5.0, freshen up the 5.0 as desired, swap in the E4OD and all the needed hardware and wiring from the explorer and then haul it off for scrap.
