Drove in UK for a week, can confirm. Actually, it’s mostly a “STAY OUT OF LONDON FOR ALL THAT’S HOLY”. Yorkshire and north of that was fine, most of the way out of London to the northeast was only sort of terrible, and rural Kent wasn’t too bad. Whitehall was evil, straight up.

The sat nav took me from Cumbria to Leeds via the A65 through Bradford. It was hell. Thought I could shave some time off taking the M6 and then M62. But no. Got stuck behind a truck doing 20-25 on the winding roads pretty much as soon as we left the M6. Even in evening rush hour we were still doing 40-60 on the M62.

Next time Grand Father is taking the ruddy train.

That’s why the Congestion Charge exists, to try and deter people from entering the city by private car and use public transport instead. It has actually ben very effective but the only problem is that there’s still too many cars. Can’t imagine what it’d be like with even more vehicles if the CC wasn’t implemented.

Well, that’s me educated. Riding the A1M to York and driving about there, quite different than many/any parts west. I’ve got no complaints about the A69 in Northumberland, of course.

As soon as we got past Lancaster on the M6, the road just opened. Then we saw the grey clouds that welcome you to Cumbria and again the M6 went from 60-70 to 100-110 and people were able to get shifting.

The south of England is a nightmare. Southampton. If I never have to go again I’d be happy. It’s just a free for all with buses, cars and HGVs all over the place.

The A69 has it’s moments but generally you can get a shift on with sufficient places to overtake the slower moving traffic.

It’s roads around the RVI that get me also. If I’m going to the RVI I’ll just go by train and get a taxi the short way from there.

I’ll say this - I should try at some point to make a proper driving tour with a proper car (not a Vauxhall), and not merely attempt to hit points of interest in a flurry during and after a bank holiday. Crossing over into Scotland and not drawing the line at Hadrian would also be a good plan.

A while back we bought a new ambulance and had to collect it from Perth.

Took the M74, A725, A8, M8, M9, M90 and then came back via the A9, M9, M80, M73 and then M74. lovely little trip out. Very scenic along the M8 and M90.

There are sections where it slows right down for local traffic (tractors) and tourists who don’t quite know what road their on but otherwise very scenic with a few places to pull over and take it all in.

Unfortunately we couldn’t as we had an ambulance to get ready and be blessed. Till we bought a new vehicle I never knew they had to be blessed.
