Hello oppo, it’s been a little while. Just wanted to stop in and say hello and share my newest acquisition.

Last month, while I was on Christmas break from school Mrs. blackcar stole my IS350. After driving her S60 for a week or so I asked her if she just wanted to keep the Lexus, sell the Volvo and I would get and old truck (I was thinking about a 73-87 C10 or a 96-98 GMT 4oo). She agreed within about 4 seconds so I started looking around for something for me.

If anyone remembers my last post I on here I posted about the used car lot up the street having the begins of my dream garage.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Well, the white GMT 400 I posted about was still there, I went and talked to the owner about it and the mileage they had on the window sticker and their website was wrong (191,000) was wrong. Not sure how it happened, but it actually has just under 100,000 miles. We worked out a deal and we traded the Volvo for the truck and now I have a fun little truck again.

It’s a 1997 with a 350 and limited slip, the first day I had it there was an ice storm here, good times were had.

I don’t have too many plans for it, as of right now I am just going to replace the headlights with some that LMC Truck sells that have a better housing, upgrade the master cylinder to one out of a newer GM pickup (almost direct bolt-in) to get rid of the mushy pedal all of these truck suffer from and get a Bluetooth compatible stereo.

So long rally Volvo, it was fun while it lasted.

Also, wall art since that seems to be the theme for today. These are both in my office.

I hope everyone is doing well except Hondabro, I hope he has hemorrhoids.

I searched and searched for one in and around STL over the summer and couldn’t find one for the life of me. I guess all the people with nice ones want to hold on to them.

It’s not actually a poster just an 8 1/2 by 11 printout on nice paper. I can try to get a really good pic of it if you want it. I don’t have a digital form of it. I stole it my boss’ door my last day in the Army.

Which one? Well, either way the answer is no. I sold the Apollo about a year and a half ago. A couple months later I bought a ‘94 Roadmaster wagon. I loved that beast, but it popped a bad patch of rust at the base of the driver’s side B-pillar. I decided to sell it while the car was still solid. I’m regretting that, because my wife doesn’t want me to spend that money on a replacement.

01/23/2017 at 08:37, STARS: 0

I forget you owned the Apollo, I was still posting when you sold that. I was asking about the Roadmaster that sucks about the rust. Yes wives, sometimes I see mine looking at the Lincoln and I can see wheels turning in her head, I am not 100% sure what is happening, but I am pretty sure it isn’t good. I am worried that someday I am going to get an “Are you ever going to sell that?”

Kinja'd!!! "blacktruck18" (blacktruck14)
01/23/2017 at 08:49, STARS: 1

I just found pics of your Suburban, that is a nice truck.

I hade a 99 Tahoe in that same color, I am firmly convinced that one of those Tahoe’s is the perfect vehicle for me. We don’t have kids so I don’t need all kinds of room, it was small enough to drive every day without going through tons of gas but big enough to do pretty much all of the hauling I needed it to do.

Kinja'd!!! "shop-teacher" (shop-teacher)
01/23/2017 at 09:24, STARS: 0

She didn’t make me sell it, nor did she ever ask me about selling it. I hadn’t planed on keeping it forever, but the rust made me decide to move it along sooner than later. I only sold it a few weeks ago, and was planning to buy something else cheap and fun (I was eye-balling a K5 Blazer actually). Now if I had known she had a problem with me replacing it, I would’ve just kept it.

She does have a point. We’ve got two kids and we’re considering having her quit to stay home. If we lose an income, it’s probably not the smartest thing in the world for me to buy a 3rd car just for me, even though I have the cash. Oh, you may have missed this, I bought XJDano’s ‘98 Chevy Metro this fall for $140. I’m going to rallycross that to death this year. I got permission to do that, instead of receiving any gifts for Christmas or my birthday.

It’s a Southern Illinois hillbilly thing I see it quite a bit. I have seen a bunch of diesel 250o’s/F250's they sound like straight garbage with it.

It doesn’t sound bad, it doesn’t sound particularly good either, I think flowmasters and normal tailpipes would be considerably better. I will probably change it eventually.

You should grow fonder, they are awesome.

Kinja'd!!! "blacktruck18" (blacktruck14)
01/23/2017 at 12:36, STARS: 0

In that case it makes sense her not wanting to spend the money.

Mrs blacktruck is completely cool with me having toy car/third cars. She is into cars too and has driven all of the cars we have owned, including my slammed C10 with 2 1/2 side exit straight pipes (yes it set off all of the car alarms).

She really likes the Lincoln she just doesn’t like driving it because it’s so big, she has driven it a few times and she just can’t get comfortable with it. That and it is kind of a pain having limited parking space and having to shuffle cars around a couple of times a week.

I think she would be totally cool with if she could drive it too. I think it just takes the fun out if it for her. I have thought a few times about selling it and getting something we could both drive, I really love that car though so.....

Yeah, she’s not being unreasonable, I just wish she had said something BEFORE I had sold the Roadmaster.

I can understand your wife’s hesitation. I have a special place in my heart for those Lincolns. One of my childhood neighbors had a series of those. He was a handyman, and would buy them cheap and use them as his pickup truck. I love giant old boats in general, but I passed on a beautiful ‘76 Deville before I bought the Roadmaster, because I just don’t want to park the thing. It would barely fit in my garage, and I’d have to get rid of a bunch of tools to even make that happen.

Kinja'd!!! "blacktruck18" (blacktruck14)
01/23/2017 at 12:58, STARS: 1

Ya, I can see that, I always lay out my full plan to my wife before I do any car stuff so we are in agreement with my schemes.

I wish the Lincoln fit in my garage that would get rid of the shuffling cars around problem. It will fit with literally nothing else in there, unfortunately the garage has all of our furniture we don’t have room for in our current place.

I can’t wait to see the Metro die, it’s going to be glorious.

I need to be better about making that clear and getting a response. In my defense, I did tell her I want to get something else, but I did not see it through to making sure she was ok with that. Live and learn!

The Metro’s exploits will be chronicled here fully, so stay tuned :)

The Army forced my wife and I into being a communicators. While I was in the Army I was basically gone every other year plus school, training and other stuff. I was basically gone half of our first 10 years of marriage. Most of our communication was by phone so we got into the habit of talking through everything super thoroughly before doing it.

It’s weird, we finally made it through the all our friends are getting married phase of life, and now all the sudden we’re in the many of them are getting divorced phase. Two separate couples we’re close to filed within a month of each other.

Kinja'd!!! "blacktruck18" (blacktruck14)
01/23/2017 at 19:48, STARS: 1

Ya, it’s crazy it’s usually the same pattern, guy joins military at 18 or 19 and marries high school. They leave together move wherever the military sends them where the wife has no support network, she gets tired off being away from her family and friends, they start arguing marriage 1 done.

Guy finds a new girl in the military he goes to or whatever for a year, gets home and then she has to go overseas a couple of months later. So they end up spending 2 months together out of a couple of years. Marriage 2 done.

Then they meet someone new and try for a third time. Usually the third one seems to stick, everyone involved is older and more mature by than.

I have had friends that were getting divorced basically the whole time I was in. It actually made having a good marriage feel kind of weird. Like we were doing something wrong.

I truthfully don’t need all that room. I only have one 2.5 month old... But Suburbans can be had for about half the price of a Tahoe, plus I love that massive gas tank. The extra wheel base is nice for towing the travel trailer, too.
