But I got 25 MPG out of the 4Runner.
243 miles on 9.7 gal.
Keep in mind EPA highway is set at 19.

How far did you drive with the fuel light on?

I once had the Niva filled up at a full-serve, went inside to pay, at thought to myself “that didn’t seem like much”. So I did the math and got 35mpg. So I pulled into another station down the block, and put in another 10 litres. It’s only a 43L tank...

Well it doesn’t matter because 3rd gens came from the factory with fuel gauges that don’t work right.

Gas was over $3.50 a gallon then. Still cheaper than when I bought it. It took over $70 to fill it up. Takes about $35 now.

I once got 30 MPG out of my Town Car. Early morning and late night commuting on mostly highways helped a ton, but I decided it was healthier to stop caring the first time I gave serious thought to not running the heat in freezing temperatures.

I think that gas station is giving you more gas than the pump is measuring. I would shop there more often.

The reason I’m shocked is because I’ve changed nothing with how I drove

Possibly. Although about 10 gal seems right for where the needle was.

Running heat doesn’t really affect MPG. It takes heat from the engine that would be rejected through the radiator anyways. Now AC on the other hand can affect MPG a bit.

Oh, duh, yeah.
Good thing my AC has a leak somewhere, so it always dies out by midsummer.
