Bench tested the starter on the Sentra and it works just fine. Wiring is fine. Battery is fine. I shined a flashlight in the hole and the flywheel looks fine so why the FUCK is my starter not engaging the flywheel and turning the damn engine?! There aren’t any shims or anything I can use, and it worked great eight or nine times when I put it in two days ago.

Is it pushing the gear forward? This is the most common problem with starters.

Have you checked the Cars battery?Too few CCA will cause the starter not to engage but everything else will work fine.

seconded. The starter can spin, but the solenoid might not work.

yes, the solenoid is kicking the gear out. It’s been theorized it isn’t doing it with enough force though and may still be bad.

No. Starter starts and kicks out, just doesn’t engage. I think the solenoid isn’t kicking the gear out with enough force.

Maybe a broken bendix unit? Started could make the gears contact, but neither would turn.
