Kinja'd!!!

This is my bike. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

My bike is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life.

My bike, without me, is useless. Without my bike, I am useless. I must ride my bike true. I must corner better than the cager who is trying to kill me. I must pass him before he doors me. I will...

My bike and I know that what counts in riding are not the miles we ride, the sound of our wheels, nor the pavement we pound. We know that it is the ride itself that counts. We will ride...

My bike is human, even as I, because it is my life. Thus, I will learn it as a sister. I will learn its weaknesses, its strength, its parts, its accessories, its cranks and its gears. I will keep my bike clean and ready, even as I am clean and ready. We will become part of each other. We will...

Before God, I swear this creed. My bike and I are the defenders of freedom. We are the masters of the road and the trail. We are the saviors of my life.

So be it, until victory is for all wheels and there is no enemy, but sharing the road!

yea.

joking aside, SV have a cult following for a reason. cheap, easy to mod, fast enough, but not deadly, and potentially one of the most reliable bike motors on the market

on oppo alone, we have at LEAST 6 of them.

me, nonster, andrew falls, decay, redline, iheartmy365Khonda, and a few others who have 1st gens

Hey, Mr Google brought up your SV build posts and I was wondering if you had any issues tuning the ‘04GSX rear shock for the SV. ..I have one (‘03 gsx 1000 rear shock) on the way to me and was wondering if I’d need to bother with rebuilding it with a different shim stack and/or damping piston.
I really it’s good to go as is..
Were you able to get the rebound set correctly?

fwiw, I have the exact same yr/model sv minus your upgrades of course.

I actually took my bike down to north carolina and had Wheeler from deals gap set the bike up for me. he said the spring was a LITTLE on the soft side, but it was perfectly workable.

then again, I am a light guy, I’m 130 w/o gear, 150 TOPS with it all. if you are over the 175# mark, you might want to look into a stiffer spring before you throw it on the bike

I’m assuming your bike has ABS, which is why you are looking at this shock. if you are ehavier then 175, and dont have ABS, you can use a ZX-14 rear shock (better spring from the factory)

okay, thanks. Yes, my bike also has ABS so the challenge as you know is the limitation the abs pump puts on options for upgrades without going to ohlins or some other aftermarket unit with a remote reservoir or custom shim stack.

I wasn’t worried about the spring so much as it’s an easy (easier) switch to make. I had read somewhere that the damping, specifically the rebound wasn’t able to be dialed in without modifying the internals of the shock which is obviously much more involved so wondered if you had to fight any issues with that.
but in any case, I’m 175lb maybe 185 with gear so I do appreciate the heads up on the spring.

yea, i know the deal...

the damping and rebound wasnt so hard. I think mine ended up in right in the middle of it.

worst case, ride it for a bit, fiddle with it, and see what needs to be changed. go from there. as for the spring, you might need to go stiffer, but only SLIGHTLY.
