I cross shopped the CX-5 with the Subaru Forester. CX-5 is better as a road car, Subaru is better off road and was the only CUV that I know of that you can get with four wheel drive and a manual transmission. I bought the Subi for the stick and the two percent of the miles that are off pavement. :-)

Kinja'd!!!

Bought ours in August. We’ve taken it camping, it does well in the mild snow and it hauls the little one around just fine. What else would you like to know.

Paint is a bit soft so clear bra is a great investment, but otherwise they’re really solid cars. I’d go for a 2.5 for extra grunt, but that’s just my preference.

they are nice - we were a week from buying one, but when the mrs sat in it she said, “this is too big, I don’t like it anymore” so we ended up with a crosstrek.

I like the size of it, bigger than the car and smaller than the truck! Looked at Crosstreks too, she just prefers the CX

All the ones they have are the 2.5. They did a 2016.5 that removed the 2.0 from the lineup. Thanks for the info

We test drove one today, the GS I believe, middle package. Any issues thus far?

My wife and I have had our 2013 CX-5 Sport FWD since December 2012. 41,000 miles on it now and no real issues. The transmission control module had to have an update this past summer, but that was it. It gets 27-28 MPG in the city, and 37-38 on the highway. Ours has the 2.0 SkyActiv and the 2014s on have the 2.5 (except for the base Sport model).

Great in the snow, even with just front-wheel-drive. Try to get a 2014 or above if you can, as the 2013s only offered the 2.0 motor. We have no issue with the power ours has, but a lot of people say the 2.0 is too slow.

There are three trim levels: Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring. Ours is just a Sport but has then roof rack and the Bluetooth stereo. The automatic transmission is a great unit and shifts really smoothly. The manual mode is surprisingly responsive, too, although we admittedly never use it.

Also, if you’re cold natured, the heat in the CX-5 will be your best friend. I swear it roasts me if I have it up all the way. And the motor warms up decently quickly so I always have heat soon after leaving home.

Yes, hi Mr. Spaceball. How do you sleep at night after discarding your Corolla?

Mazda tech here if you have any mechanical questions, really don’t see much go wrong with any of the skyactiv Mazdas, although we’ll see how the new turbo cx-9 holds up.

We bought one for my wife a couple years ago. I love it. It’s an excellent compromise of ride and handling. We got a GT with the Bose stereo, which sounds fantastic. My one nit to pick is the seat heaters only get warm and really not hot.

No problem! I forgot that the GX is available with the 2.5 now. They still offer the 2.0 on the 2016.5s, but only with the 6MT FWD base model. The GS is a big enough jump in features from the GX that I’d really consider springing for it. It’s only $1150 more than a GX with the convenience pack, but that $1150 goes a very long way (moonroof, navigation, 6 speakers instead of 4, power driver’s seat, heated seats, backup camera, fog lights, blind spot monitoring, rain sensing wipers, and automatic headlights).

No issues. My only complaint is the clunky info tainment system. It’s really slow.

We have a grand touring. 70k miles in and no issues what so ever. Best car we have ever bought. Nothing but oil changes. Does great in the snow. The awd system and traction/stability control is very good. We have driven it through several snow storms and it has been great. If they are still putting the A23 tires on them they are great as well. Lasted 60k miles and handled great.

It was a great car but we just needed more space.

Speaking of more space... I might be looking at another car this week... I am scheming very carefully because my wife will not be having this, and this will certainly require the surrender of another vehicle. I know deep down that this is not going to be a hill worth dying on. However, I really want that car and can afford it.

Ooooooohhh. Can you switch the plaid seats into it? Dumping the Tercel then?

Kinja'd!!! "Dr. Zoidberg - RIP Oppo" (thetomselleck)
01/22/2017 at 20:22, STARS: 0

Can’t really dump the tercel in the state it’s in. Maybe just feeling a little frustrated because I things started going awry after two months of ownership, on top of other things that were wrong but knew about and felt.confident fixing. In addition, I have no freaking free time, and when I work 10-12 hours, all I want to do is nothing

01/22/2017 at 20:34, STARS: 0

Have you diagnosed what’s wrong with the Tercel? I hear you on the free time. You get home from busting your ass and the last thing on your list of to do is wrench. Or you want to wrench but can’t. Doesn’t help it’s cold and wet.

The Audi is having a cylinder 2 misfire. Could be a cool or plug. They are about 18 months old. Possible fuel rail. I’m done. I’m shopping Tacos. The worst is when your SO gives you “that look” when you start a conversation about a failing car or replacing one. Again.

Well my wife called me out on the state of the garage (shitshow) last night finally. She is not wrong.

You’re getting a ‘14 double cab I assume?

The garage in our house is a tense subject. It’s full of shit we don’t use!

Not sure. I need to keep the cost down. I want this!

I’m hoping the new CX-9 proves very reliable. We took my wife’s ‘08 to 190k and then sold it to my sister, who’s loving it. Currently in a ‘14 MDX, which hopefully will last us many years, but I wouldn’t mind getting back into a Mazda after it.

Respect for putting cash down for a manual Forester! Wish Mazda would offer it on the CX-5.
