Kinja'd!!!

My baby’s growing up so fast.

I’ve always known this car was special. Even the first day I saw it, so beat up the owner was about to junk it, I knew it could be salvaged if I put in the work. I strongly believed, and still do, that there was some serious potential, which is why we’ve been partnered up the last two years.

As of three weeks ago, someone else sees that potential as well. Say hello to Burstcraft USA, a San Francisco based shop dedicated to making Mazdas and Hondas turn heads on the street, and embarrass other competitors at the track.

The owner’s a great guy who I’ve gotten to know fairly well over the past few months while working out the details of our arrangement. With a Miata, Integra, multiple bikes and at least 3 project cars at any given time he’s definitely our kind of people.

We finalized the deal, and I finally got around to putting a logo on (now that it’s not twenty degrees out) and figured I’d try to get one of my new seats MacGyver-ed onto the stock sliding rails while the weather was permitting. Success! Unfortunately I still can’t have anyone sit in them while driving since there isn’t a harness/rollbar yet... but baby steps people!

Have some pictures. Have all the pictures

In all fairness I washed my car two days ago, and the big scratches are all on the back.

Montego blue? That’s been one of my favorites since seeing Revlimiter’s car Sharka. So deep. So captivating

Yeah, I have a 94M so its the Montego Blue Mica. Its my favorite feature of the car. Sharka is so nice. The past owners of my car didn’t know how to wash a car or treat paint.

I wrote to his company (a lot of companies actually) with reasons why I would be a good fit. Basically highlighting my future plans in motorsports, car shows, the fact that I daily the car 200 miles a week... The idea was to show that my car and I were a viable advertising platform and we were in tune with the company philosophies.

The big thing is to differentiate yourself from everyone else looking for sponsorships. I did this by talking about dirt rallyx and custom fabrication from a beginner’s point of view, two things that aren’t very common for Miatas.

Benefits for me are 50% off all parts manufactured in house, discounts on all the big brands they carry (it varies depending on particular items, generally 10-40% off), pictures and paragraphs on their website and social media and invitations to driving events as well as special shop events. Oh and being able to pick the brains of all the shop techs comes in handy. In the future this could lead to free flights and lodging, professional photographers, monthly checks... All depends on how I benefit the company in terms of getting my own, and therefore their own name out there by winning races, getting recognition at car meets and so on.

A bit long winded! Hope that helps a bit

I found this to be very useful information. Thank you so much for your reply. Again, very useful!

Worst cupholders ever? You’ve never seen the ones in an ‘04 Miata.

Congrats, but one word of advice. If the sponsorship is contingent on the sticker- def have the goal of $ in mind. For discounts I have a very small YouTube channel (200k, under 1k subs) and promising to do a video is usually enough. Just lookin out for a fellow car guy.

Great deal for BurstCraft - you still pay them for parts and they get free advertising.

If you plan to autocross your car at national level events, I believe your windshield banner will be in violation of their rules. A door decal may be better to get their name on your car during the event. Then you can send them pics of your car in action with their name visible so they can hang it in their shop.

If you/they want better visibility I would go with white. Black is hard to see on your windshield or maybe it is just the way the pics come out.

Good luck, I tried to get local sponsorships and they never panned out.

Thank you for the tips! Visibility-wise, I had a silver backing originally but my vinyl laying skills are awful so that didn’t work out. I’m sticking with the black just to keep my car from looking too “Racecar” at the moment, I’d rather not attract more attention from cops. For now I’m just doing dirt rally and the occasional car show, but once autocross season starts up I’ll figure something else out

Yeah. Unfortunately the “free everything” kinda deal is virtually unheard of at anything below top level Nascar, F1, etc.

I’m more than happy with this, especially considering I don’t even have a long history of podium finishes

As long as you’re stoked with it, that’s all that really matters!
