Kinja'd!!!

It’s original, worn, but still stock, running and driving. Basically perfect, and I badly want it.

The only thing is I’m not sure it would keep up with traffic. Something with a V8 might be better, even for weekend summer cruising purposes.

You can always do an engine swap or body drop later, and I’m sure it will be just fine cruising along in the right lane.

Nah, half the reason I like it is because it hasn’t been modified at all.

I’d rather have something with its original V8, like this

Or just be fine with an old 6 cylinder

If you were super interested, I’d say go test drive it, you’d be surprised how well some of those old cars can still keep up nowadays! :)

These old manuals aren’t always exactly fun. Sometimes a car is better with a slushbox.

Pretty interior on this one, maybe this was a “spring color” model.

Yeah a 3 on the tree isn’t quite what I had in mind, but it seems kinda cool. I can see an auto working better in one of these old ones though.

That actually looks like it might be a potential good deal, if it is actually sound, structurally. You’ll never win restoring it, but as a kind of ratty driver, it has some style. Budget for needs, pull up with $4500 in pretty multi colored bills, see what happens.

That’s pretty much my thinking. A kind of ratty driver from this era is one of the things I badly want. The only problem is the distance from me, and I don’t quite want it enough to go all the way to Campbell River for it.

Different era, but I’ve emailed about this one to ask how much bodywork it probably needs

There’s nothing sporty about it, so it is just more work, in my opinion. Of course, an old automatic has the potential for more repairs. I am more than happy that my fintail is an automatic.

I remember looking at a lot of old cars like that 20-25 years ago, as my dad was into finding old relics. I’ve seen my share of 3 on the trees, and I am over it. He had one that you might have liked - 68 Fairlane, 289, radio, no other options. 3 on the tree, manual steering, manual brakes, white on white with dog dish hubcaps. It was a chore to drive, but when he wanted to sell it, someone snapped it up pretty quick.

3 things.

1) An I6 should be fine. My buddy used to have a 50's Meadowbrook that was decent for cruising around it.

2) Not really a point. But I’m always scared of these things on jackstands.

3) Phhhpth :p

And I am sure it would need to be trailered home, especially this time of year.

That Polara looks OK, especially when I consider that it is 1500 USD, and can likely be negotiated. The big 65-68 Mopars are solid cars. My grandpa had a 65 Chrysler new, also a 383 - great car, my uncle still talks about it. The worst part might be thirst.

That is a pretty decent 54 Olds 88. Figure at least $500 plus shipping for glass, and maybe another $500 or so to get the bench properly re-done.

Almost anything I’m thinking of getting would be a good weather fun car, so fuel economy isn’t too much of a concern. As long as the floors aren’t falling out it seem like a pretty good deal.

The manual brakes I can do without, but that does sound like a cool car

It was a handful. He liked it, as he was old school. He’d usually keep it 2nd gear all the time for city and suburban driving. I think the coolest old car we had back when was the 60 Ford Country Sedan, which was a 352/automatic. 60 wagons are stupendously rare today - although I remember seeing an even rarer 2 door one for sale in the lower mainland some time ago, and maybe a 60 Edsel too.

My old car is automatic, PS, PB, and I am fine with that.

Do you have a garage? These things can deteriorate fast if parked outside in the damp.

I should be getting access to one very soon, I just have to go there and make sure the door actually opens because in 60+ years, it’s never had a car put in it.

And if it’s an old garage, make sure it will fit - something designed in 1940 can have problems with cars from 1960.

One winter outside, or summers outside, shouldn’t be a huge issue, but a few years in the elements can push some old cars past redemption.

I’ve been stopping myself from getting anything that old until I had a garage to use. I’d hate to be the owner that killed an preserved old car by keeping it outside.

The size I’m gonna have to keep an eye on, I’m told it’s not very big.
