I ventured out for a little bit earlier but didn’t get any pictures. Lots of roads still blocked and I didn’t want to be in the way. The ones below are from local news. As of right now it was rated an EF-3, but that could change as surveys continue. Unfortunately, 4 people so far have lost their lives.

I’m at a loss right now. This tornado passed only a mile or two from my house. There’s devastation everywhere along the path.

What makes it worse is there is a potential for more severe weather later today. Current mesoscale discussions are suggesting another tornado watch will be issued in a few hours. I’ll update with more later.

We’re fine. The tornado passed about a mile or 2 south of us. Happened a little before 4 am this morning.

Indeed. It was very close call. Petal got the worst of the damage, though. It’s very bad over there.

Thank you. I’m an amateur storm chaser and this one really had me worried. It’s different when it’s your hometown.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I was super interested in earthquakes as a kid, until we moved to LA in ‘92 and the ‘94 Northridge Quake hit and scared the shit out of me.

Tornadoes are scary things. They are unpredictable and strike randomly, even along their path.

I have friends and relatives in Oklahoma. When the big F5 came through a few years ago, it started a few miles from my grandmother’s house, ended a few miles from my mom’s house, and skipped a few friends in between. That was a scary, scary day.

The tornado that hit my house in Louisiana skipped over a school (thank God for that one) but took out houses on both sides of the school. I had to redo all of the siding on one side of the house, replace some fencing and some windows, and replace my garage door. I was lucky. Two houses down, the entire roof was picked up and dropped back in place. The next two houses on that side of the street were destroyed. The funny thing is that the two houses across the street had minimal damage like mine. The last one would have been the same if their neighbor’s tree had not fallen and bisected the house. Thankfully, out of all the houses destroyed, only one person was home and she saw it coming. She was looking out the front window, saw the tornado, and made a run for an interior closet. The house was torn down around her. She said the first thing she saw when she opened her eyes was sky.

I’ve seen some weird stuff associated with tornadoes. I’d rather not see any more in person.
