I feel poor because I just have cupboard doors to cover my sink’s plumbing.
Edit: question: if there’s another drawer going above that one, how the hell are they going to access that plug? Or is it for one of those sink garbage disposal things?

That’s pretty damned good.
In more than one ‘dummy’ drawer, I’ve added the swing down hinges and a tiny shelf to hold something. This is a way better solution.

Wait, is this not a normal thing in the US? Here in the Netherlands almost all of them have this (going by what I’ve seen when I worked for a bathroom showroom).

I guess it’s the latest hip happening trend over here. I’ve worked in 100 billion homes but don’t recall seeing this before.

What do you think of the IKEA vanity drain solution?

It stinks, literally. How do they stop sewer gases without a water trap? I am gussing they have one sideways in the back, maybe?

Nah, standard is to have a cabinet instead of drawers. You just stuff your towels, toilet paper, and cleaning supplies in around the plumbing.

Residential building quality in Murka can be lacking, to put it nicely.

Same in the UK, when I was working in a Bathroom showroom too. Now also an engineer. What a coincidence.

This is pretty cool. My vanity has shallow little drawers that just go back to the drains. I might actually cut up some plywood and build something like this. Oh PS in response the cabinet around the fridge that you posted the other day - my fridge is surrounded by cabinetry (low res photo so no one can read all my crap lol). The way the house is built, that is actually all I have for a pantry, so it kind of makes sense. The fridge is a Jenn-Air, so it is solid, but it is getting old and I’m kind of dreading replacing it. If you look close, you’ll see that about 2" all around it is just trim panels, so I do have some wiggle room on dimensions of the new one if I get new trim made.

Have it, its terrifying but it works and works well. We have it in a bathroom used daily for about 2 years, 0 problems since install.

Back flow on that drain would be garbage. Imagine filling that bowl and draining it (say after shaving) By not having a drop trap, and instead an immediate elbow, it would take a while to build proper pressure. Not to mention servicing that would be a PITA.
Note: I’m a property inspector, and I’m seeing these more and more in the “designer homes”.
