575M F1, nice right? Beautiful leather work everywhere, including on the half cage and fire bottle. The racer in me finds these ridiculous, but it does look nice.

Manual swap, Step 1: Remove interior, very carefully.

Kinja'd!!!

See the red speaker wire? Some half-assed stereo shop has had the whole thing apart before to install an amp and subs in the back, and did a shit job of it, which made things harder. Running wires in bad places, missing fasteners, fasteners in the wrong place, parts under tension that shouldn’t be, bent locating tabs, five butt connectors in a one foot section of wire... If you’re a stereo installer, I’m sorry. I’m sure you’re a nice person, but know that every mechanic hates you.

If I had that I don’t think I’d need a special stereo at all - the radio wouldn’t be on much.

There is no such thing as ridiculous in a car of that caliber, it is “why does it not have this?”

Said myself and everyone else who saw that hackery. Looks at engine... looks at stereo... looks back at engine... WHHYYYYY

I don’t know, the 550 & 575 are properly spectacular cars, not a run of the mill 360. The roll bar, OK, I’ll allow it. But the fire bottle? Come on. It’s a Ferrari, you might actually have to use it.

I thought Ferrari interiors were suppose to look good?

Edit: to further my point. I wear what ever’s on the top of my drawer, but that grey dash and all brown interior is horrendous.

Haha, I do too, these cars are out of my normal realm. The pics don’t do it justice, the dash is actually dark blue leather. It’s not a perfect combo, I’ll allow that. A couple of us debated the color choices, in fact. One issue is that the seats were upholstered at a different time than other tan surfaces so the browns didn’t match.

I dig it.

My first car (which I bought from my parents), had a bunch of great stereo parts my dad had paid to get installed when the car was new. From day 1 of that install, the left side door speaker would squeal whenever the wipers were turned on. Shortly after I got the car, the head unit died. While changing that, I made it my mission to figure out why that speaker hated the wipers. Oh the butchery I found .... among many things which I no longer remember, the amp was wired to the ignition, so it turned on whenever the car did, whether you were listening to the stereo or not. I did ultimately fix that squeal though.

I think the 575 in one of the best looking Ferraris

I quite like that tan and dark blue combo. I’ve only seen something like it before on a Bentley Mulsanne.

That sounds like par for the course. Just take power anywhere, it doesn’t matter! I remember an old Mercedes I saw that had its amp held in with wood screws... that punctured the gas tank.

Are you in LA again?

Oh no! What’s supposed to be there? I’ve never looked at those grilles on a Touring closely.

Quite the kit, right? Not in LA again, just more pictures from when I was. There’s lots more ;)

They made their initial offer, so we’re talking.

Disgusting. I’ve had a similar experience with stereo installs, even very basic ones. But never on a Ferrari lol.

Eventually I learned to do it myself, so I can look up the right way to disassemble and take my time rather than just hacking at it like a “professional” would.

The grills have stubs that fit and shut them on place correctly. Most of ‘m have, well, evaporated over time. And as they aren’t available anymore... Just use wall plugs and screws! Still figuring out how to fix mine though...

That rollbar is actually quite an exclusive option on 550s and 575s. Interestingly it’s one of the few cars which can legally run a cage on the road in Italy.

01/23/2017 at 12:11, STARS: 0

Good to know! Not that I’ve seen many of them here, but this is certainly the only one I’ve seen with the roll structure. As far as I know, no exposed roll cage is allowed ahead of the b-pillars in the US, at least from the factory. I wonder if Ferrari pulled some strings to get it approved in Italy?

The paperwork for the 550 shows that the cage is homologated for road use, the only other car I know of which has a cage homologated for road use in Italy is the GT3 Clubsport and the GT3RS. Unfortunately any other cages, braces and such like are illegal. Mini had to get special dispensation for the rear brace in the John Cooper Works GP.
