I know we’re all up in arms about politics today, but I’ve got something to say that’s going to disgust all of you.

I just went for a drive in the Camry on my lunch break and I loved it. I even used the flappy paddles.

Now, direct all your disgust and vitriol at me and feel the catharsis.

I can’t even bring myself to hate this after doing 600 miles in a 2016 Camry. I realy liked it. It’s not perfect but if I’m doing butt time in a sedan give me a Camry anyday.

A little sterile, but a decent and reliable transportation appliance. A co-worker’s wife’s Hybrid model had a much more pleasant interior than the rental I once had. Hey, it’s not a Prius...

Do these things still force the gearbox into 4th gear whenever you move it into Manual?

I had a Lexus ES350 that did that and it enraged me.

No dent, but it does have a little scar toward the left corner of the bumper from a previous driver backing into something.

I’m going to do my level best to avoid the dent, but it may just happen.

Yes and no. It doesn’t actually go to 4th gear. What that means is that it is limited to gears 1-4. Moving the paddles/selector up or down changes the gear to which the transmission will stop at.

The gear limit is what infuriates me.

I’m loafing at 6th on the highway, and I want to hop over to manual mode. I do not want the thing to downshift to 4th. I could imagine that actually being dangerous on a sporty drive in the middle of a long sweeper. Not that I would do that with an ES350 or a Camry, but...
