I think C5s are ageing really well.

Kinja'd!!!

Specifically, the targa models with the fastback rear glass. I think the proportions are perfect, and I’d take one over a C6 in a heartbeat - they are looking even more dated than the C5 to my eyes, especially the disgusting cheap looking headlights:

Yikes.

C5 Corvette is best post C4, pre C6 Corvette....

I’ll agree on the C6 headlights looking dated. I think the only way the C6 headlights look good are on an all black C6 Z06. Those color matched headlight housings are horrendous though.

I was tossing the idea of getting a C5 or C6 daily before I went the opposite direction and got something more practical for my purposes (2014 Ram)

I’d love a Targa version, but with any rare Vettes, you have toupée to play.

lol. I’d take C4 too. Especially with the Doug Nash 4 + 3 because it’s so much fun to say. Not the most durable trans though apparently. But the idea of splitting gears in a sports car sounds hilarious

for sure. the ideal spec would be a mild occasional track day/auto x build with some lighter wheels and a slight drop.

hahahaha that’s amazing and I’m going to steal it. Yes targas are a little less common than coupes but nevertheless way easier to find than the two cars I’ve owned so far (Y33 Q45, 635csi)

YES exactly the color matched housing is a big part of it. I bet the Ram has a way nicer interior than both of those vettes (not that it’s hard to accomplish that lol)

C7s have SO MUCH presence. I wasn’t sure about them from the pictures but as soon as I saw one in person I was sold.

C5s are great for commuting, BTW.

I had a co-worker who commuted in one when I worked in an office that was on county roads from everywhere. As he said, through it in high gear and use the suspension. The less you used the brakes, the closer it got to 28 mpg.

Light, aero, and competent at handling with a crazy O/D that had it lumber along at low RPMs.

And they feel so nice! Honestly, the Cockpit is VERY much like the C4 in how it feels when one is in it. And they drive so nice. Sooooo niiiiiccceee....

It would be life changing to have three pedals and a light car, let alone get 28 MPG. My average is 14 right now. In Demuro’s latest video he said that driving a car that gets low teens costs $2500 a year over a “normal” automobile...

I bet. Way too much power for me though! I’m trying to work my way up the curve as slowly as I can. I’ve only owned heavy cars with less than 300 HP so even a C5 would be pretty nuts to me!

To be fair, my co-worker followed the techniques of hyper-milers , but when you have a 350-hp Vette it isn’t as obvious to surrounding traffic.

Yeah the FRC is totally the “driver’s car” out of the two. But I think the elongated rear deck and stubby rear glass nuke the proportions :/

I can’t do anything but recommend the C5. Seriously. I owned that car for 9 years, had a thermostat go bad. That was it. Super easy to work on (time consuming, at times, but not hard) and just a beautiful drive.

Wow, 9 years! That’s really impressive. Care to elaborate at all? Did the interior ever get to you? I haven’t sat in one but I have ridden in a ‘99 GMC Jimmy and I’m expecting the same thing LOL

I used to be able to squeeze almost 15 out of H2s. it impressed my boss. But I used to drive delivery trucks, so I knew how to make a 4-ton object move efficiently.

I never found the interior annoying at all. It was fine. I mean, you hear about cheap this, cheap that, but it was comfortable, all the parts were in the right spot, everything was easy to reach, it fit great for me at 6'4"...

I did replace the seats with C6 Z06 seats, but that was more for the sweet red accents than anything. God I miss that car...

There’s a few guys at my local AutoX that run C5s and they’re damn fast. Fun to see that back end swing around when they get on the loud pedal a little too much.

I commute to work everyday in my C4 LT1/6-speed vette. I average about 25mpg, and can see as high as 28mpg on extended trips. It gets better fuel mileage than my E39, miata and legend coupe daily-drivers before it, and it costs significantly less to insure than any of them.

My high school buddy’s parents had a brand new Y32 in the mid-90s, what an amazing car. I’ve always had a soft spot for the Q, then later the M (when it was still the Yakuza-mobile). I love the 635 — a neighbor of mine recently died and had a beautiful red one (1984?) sitting in the driveway during the estate sale. Unfortunately, his sister already had a claim to it and had some restoration work to do, so I probably didn’t want to get into that project...

Yeahhhh E24s rust out in nasty places - around the taillights and window frames, where there’s no way you can just replace the panel.

Amusingly the Y32s are actually faster! Slightly lighter because it’s a smaller car, and more power too because it’s actually a 4.5. (Y33 = 4.1 because of emissions).

I agree completely. The C6's lights worked at the time, but they’re quite dated now. The C5's flippy lights should be dated, but it’s such a clean and relatively modern design, it’s hard to judge.

Ditch the chrome wheels though.
