That was not an empire. The Comanche were hunter gathers and horse traders. While they had a very extensive area with which to hunt and gather on, it was not an empire. That photo you using is from a book entitled Comanche Empire where the author argues that the nation was much more empire like than it is given credit for. While I agree that the Comanches were highly organized, I don’t think anything they developed resembled an empire, especially when compared to Europeans or even other American peoples.

Patriotism: The desire to work for and serve your country to make it a better place for everybody because it’s the right thing to do.
Nationalism: The desire to work for and serve your own part of your country to make it a better place for you and your ilk because you believe that the whole thing only belongs to you.
Trump’s acceptance speech rant was addressed to his almost entirely white audience who believe that they have been slighted and that black, brown, yellow and LGBT people are trying to take it away from them. At a time when our dreadfully divided country needed a note of reconciliation, he doubled down on the hatred and ethnocentrism that got him elected.

What was breathtaking was how he stood there and basically insulted every single person on the platform behind him. It was as if he were disgorging one epic Twitter rant from his aerie atop Trump Tower. During the NBC coverage, they threw it to a reporter on the street who was interviewing members of Bikers For Trump, a motorcycle group that came to help provide “security” for the inauguration, as if the 28,000 LEOs there couldn’t handle it themselves. The reporter asked them about the speech, and of course, they raved about it, about how he was going to protect Americans from the politicians and return power to the people. I really wished she had said, “All Americans? Black, brown, yellow, LGBT? Or just the white ones?” Because, in all honestly, that speech was directed solely at White Christian America™.

They’ve already said that they plan to axe the National Endowment for the Arts and the National Endowment for Humanities. Whether or not Congress approves that is another story. But the hostility of this administration and Congress towards the arts and sciences is well documented. And that will be a great loss for America.
