I missed about 5 mins of his speech to take a phone call from my boss only to come back and ask my buddy what I missed.

I also find it hilariously ironic that Republicans are preaching about freedoms regardless of religion, race, sexual orientation, etc. then start the “bathroom bill” diatribe in our state’s capitol.

I was there. My friends and I personally enjoyed his speech and pretty much every aspect of the inauguration itself. Neither of us liked Chuck Schumer’s speech however.

The presidential campaign may be over, but the campaign to convince everyone by word, deed, or otherwise, that Donald J. Trump is the best thing to come to planet earth since blowjobs and anaerobic glycolysis will never be over. It’s why america must be in a second depression and only he can fix it. It’s why the media must be lying when it says a lot of people didn’t show up for the inauguration.
It’s why he begins talking to a room full of people with, ‘All of you must have voted for me’. It’s why everything with him is the ‘biggest, greatest, tremendous,’ etc, etc. It’s why we have ‘alternative facts’ now, because if the real facts don’t do anything other than confirm his greatness, they must be replaced with other ones that do.

Yes. And he has also been proven to have a very, very thin skin. Throughout his business career, he has been surrounded by sycophants and toadies, none of whom had the temerity to tell him he was wrong. He lives inside his own echo chamber. So, telling him that his crowd was smaller than Obama’s goes right to the core of his insecurity, and he will say that everybody is lying, and Kelly Anne Conway will invent “alternate facts,” so the emperor will continue to believe that he has clothes. Of course, his supporters will believe anything that he says, so they will accept these “alternate facts” as the truth. It’s really a stunning situation in which we find ourselves, where data and observation are thrown out simply because we don’t like what they are saying.

I’m not so sure that’s the world we’re going to live in. It’s definitely true that many Trump supporters are going to ignore reality and listen only to what the FantaFuhrer says. It’s also true that there will be two versions of reality presented by the media; it pays far more to tell people what they want to hear than it does to fact check and be vigilant to the truth.
But we’ve also been getting a little preview of the next four years are going to be like over the past few months. The pushback against this incoming administration has been severe. Usually, a new president rides high on a wave of popularity after winning an election, but this one ‘won’ despite being down by millions of votes. The price for this is entering office with miserable approval ratings and a day-one uprising against his administration. As we approach 2018, signing on to an unpopular president’s domestic agenda is going to get harder and harder to do.
The Trump administration would like to construct it’s own facts and disqualify media sources that don’t play along. But given the immediate wave of ridicule that erupted around ‘spicer facts’, it’s a given that much of the public (and along with them many major media sources) won’t be going along with that.
The republican majority declared for itself a mandate upon coming to Washington. But constituent pushback required them to immediately reinstate the house ethics committee they just killed, and that’s something minor. Bigger items like the obamacare repeal, the elimination of medicade and others are going to face bigger opposition than that.
