Kinja'd!!!

I don’t feel a lot of stuff for the Miura, at least design-wise (because transversal V12 is yummy). I see why it’s objectively beautiful yes, but never to the extent where I would yell “THAT’S THE MOST BEAUTIFUL CAR EVER, A CHARIOT OF THE GODS, EMBODIMENT OF A MECHANICAL SOUL” when I see one. Yet, pretty much every gearhead I know would at least place it in their personal top 10. Not saying they’re wrong, but I just don’t feel it at all. I don’t really like the headlights, either. So I guess I should burn at the stake, right?

I don’t know. It feels too modern for a car that old, and too old for a modern car. Truly timeless, sure, but I don’t get any emotions from it.

I don’t want to say boring, but yeah I’m a bit indifferent. Again, objectively, yes I can see it has everything that should be considered beautiful, but subjectively... nah. Like the Ferrari 275 GTB (oh boy, I’m in trouble for this post)

Kinja'd!!!

If I want emotion, I look at that beauty:

Oh yeah. DB4 GTZ will always be on my top five taking turns leading the pack. Oh yeeeaaaaah take me far away.

TBH I think the headlights look very stupid, they kinda ruin these for me

I fell similarly about the E-Type.

Maserati A6G-2000 Zagato. Having seen one of these just yards away from a Miura, I can honestly say it’s prettier.

I love the Miura, I really do, but my Lambo soft spot is for the 350GT.

Although I really wish the GTV had hit production. Sweet mama.

You’re not alone. Most ‘60s and ‘70s Lamborghinis don’t do much for me, although I do have a soft spot for the unwanted and unloved Urraco - don’t ask me why (I also like the 308GT4 Dino). Maseratis of the same era also elicit the same ‘eh’ response as the Muira. There’s something about the flow and continuity of the lines that seems inconsistent; if the designer just too a few more weeks to work them out it might have been better.

There are some good looking vehicles from that era; a couple of my favorites to follow (bonus points for the E24 that I didn’t see whilst snagging these images):

Maybe I just like taller greenhouses and don’t automatically think that lower is better. Balance and proportion.

Agreed on Lambo. The first one I really love is early Countach.

I do like the E-Type a fair bit better. In person, it’s gorgeous. But probably not in my top 5, where most people say it’s the most beautiful thing on earth. A Low-Drag one though, maybe.

The earlier the better. After awhile they just became a rolling caricature with all of the wings and scoops and flares tacked on. I liked those crazy versions when I was a kid, as all children did, but then I grew up and could appreciate the clean, simple, pure shape of the original car.

The coupes are much better looking to me than the roadsters.

I strongly agree. And early ones too, without the V12 and not the 2+2.

The concept car is incredibly striking, without resorting to overdesign of all the details. The rear arches get me everytime.

I think it’s because they lie flat facing up

Exactly. They’re merely interesting when viewed only from the side, but on a ¾ view have a different feel to them with the way that they interact with the inward curving lower surfaces.

I will say that most mid-engined cars are rather awkwardly proportioned due to their need to extend the rear portion of the body to cover the drive train. The 288GTO was the only one that seemed to do this in a balanced fashion. Anything by Zonda just seems to take pleasure in that awkwardness, and despite that honesty I can’t stand to look at their vehicles. The one vehicle that always confounded me in this regard was the Testarossa, and only a few months ago did I learn that the reason it’s better proportioned is that the gearbox is under the engine, not behind it, and much like a classic Saab 900. Whilst not the greatest for vehicular dynamics, it does wonders for aesthetics.

Boom REKT!

I have to agree, though. On pure design perspective that is. Because in terms of engineering, the Miura is crazy cool, especially compared to what was Ferrari doing at the time.

I haven’t seen it in realtime either. I would hope that is just the case on why Im not really drawn to the Miura either. For me the Diablo has a look from Lamborghini I like (right before they started getting into planes like Saab)
