Shit. Guys (Americans and others) we actually are driving on the wrong side.

I must say this guy’s becoming one of my favorite YouTubers. His knowledge of relatively minor things about the ancient word is interesting. Plus rants like this and about saucepans and such.

Edit: Damn it! We’re also wrong about football :(

His reasoning of the right hand being more precise does not make any sense really... Before, the lack of synchro in cars required the shifting to be done with precision and to be firm, which is helped when done with the right hand for most people...

Also the driving on the left is safer is bullshit... Yes, the UK has one of the lowest fatalities rate per billion miles driven in the world (the only way to measure road safety) at 3.6 death per billion miles driven while France is around 6 and Germany around 5... But Japan, which is a highly developped country with a really annoying driving test, good roads and technical inspections of cars every 2 years, gets 8 deaths per billion miles driven... That kind of kill his logic...

But for an emergency maneuver steering would be much more important than changing gear. Also you may not be able to compare Japan with other countries in driving deaths, because of Kei cars which aren’t used else where.

Emergency manoeuvers are done with both hands... anyone who does those with one hand can’t drive and is an idiot. :)

Then take Australia (5 death per billion mmiles driven) or New Zealand (7 death per billion miles driven). Neither of those countries are under developped and neither get their license in a Kinder. Kei-cars deaths are proportional to the amount of keicars on the market and death are not higher among keicar owners so it disproves the argument also.

He’s not “right” just because he has a British accent. I don’t know why we (Americans) are so dumb as to equate an accent with intelligence.

Is oppo considered an emergency maneuver? Because if so, one handed oppo is boss.

Lol, no it’s not... It’s also a”figure “, not how you’re supposed to deal with it :)

I’m sorry but I just can’t imagine changing gears on a stick shift with my left hand, as I’m right-handed. Moreover, I’m left-eye dominant, so I’d rather that be my inboard eye watching out for oncoming traffic and the double yellow line. YMMV.

If you are driving around with one hand on the shifter, you are doing it wrong. Two hands on the wheel, only touch the shifter when you need to shift. Also all the controls that require a moderate amount of coordination are on the right in LHD.

And for track days, you need to make very fast very precise movements from the wheel to the shifter and back to the wheel. I doubt I could snap off a shift anywhere near as fast left handed as I can right because I am right-handed.

tl;dr he’s a crock of shit.
