Pre-kinja then, huh? I started reading Jalopnik around 2009-2010 iirc. I don’t remember when I started reading Oppo, though. Maybe a year or so after that.

I won’t go as far as to say I’m oppo OG, but I was active in 2009/2010, I can’t remember. I was one of the ones that left when kinja was implemented; I suffered through 5.0, kinja was too much. My main problem was that you had to scroll through comments, there wasn’t a button to display all, it was a pain in the ass to use. Honestly, people bitch about kinja, but it’s SO much better than the old system.

I think people will always find at least one thing to complain about with each update, some of it rightly so, but I agree it has gotten better. I remember reading the comments early on about how bad it was. Oppo lost a lot of good people back then. Some have come back, but there’s several who didn’t.

I think a lot of people come into it thinking they may post or comment for a little while, but not long term. You get sucked in, though, and suddenly you’ve been on here for years.

5.0 was broken half the time, I’m not even going to pretend we were looking for reasons to nitpick. The problem was they went from a working commenting system to one that had a shit ton of bugs in it. The argument is that we get to use it for free, so we shouldn’t complain is invalid since this is how they make their money, so it should work.
Oppo did lose a lot of quality people, I wish some of them would come back. I’m glad some people stayed and kept oppo alive.

Oh yeah, back then everybody had plenty of reason to complain. I was just pertaining to updates after that. There definitely should have been more testing before 5.0 was released. If it was still like that now, Oppo would be a ghost town.
I am too. I probably wouldn’t have broken down and finally joined if I felt it wasn’t going to get any better.

I’m surprised it took you so long to join, I lurked on the FP for a couple of months before I joined in April 2009. Some times I look back at all the people that I heart clicked/heart clicked me , and wonder what happened to some of them. I know I hated kinja and then worked a job that took all my time, kinda wish I was active when I was working. Would have made the oil field more bearable.
