It truly boggles the mind that so many self-professed Reagan disciples are so eager to make excuses for a guy who’s such an apologist for a man who clearly wants to resurrect the USSR.

Obviously a kayaker, one whose favorite part of each journey is the launch.

It boggles my mind, Dave. If Pence were POTUS-elect, and we were facing down a bunch of conservative politics, then that would be that. But Birther Boy and his Twitter account are tearing our country apart, scandal by impending scandal. My secret hope is that the Republicans will impeach him. They’d win over a buch of centrist Democrats in the process, if they did.

I’m kind of old and my brain is kind of dried out. Will you explain to me what you mean here?

A “put in” is typically where small boaters launch; opposite is the “take out” :D So I could easily see this on an Outback.

Thank you. Should that be hyphenated? Put-in?

Amen. An impeachment won’t mean anything to the left from a policy perspective – Pence is as creepy an evangelical republican as they come and will continue down the path that many recent republican congressmen have been trying to take the country. But I disagree with others on the left that he will be worse than Trump. With Trump we will get all of Pence and then a whole lot more with his erratic behavior, temper tantrums, and the absolute level of stupid on display with just the most random shit he wants to poke his tiny little fingers in to, not to even mention the level of ethical issues on display with his business and personal interests. I’ll take a more or less predictable Pence, no matter how creepy I find him or his beliefs over the Trump shitshow.

Precisely. Gimme Pence any day over this grownup-sized thirteen-year-old.

If he continues to brush off serious conflicts of interest and refuses to abide by clear limits, clearly set (“ no member or delegate to Congress, or elected official of the government of the United States or the government of the District of Columbia, shall be admitted to any share or part of this lease, or to any benefit that may arise therefrom ”), I’m not sure what choice they’ll have if he keeps up what he’s doing and they want to maintain any credibility. Many on the right have already lost that credibility by supporting him, so maybe they feel like they have to ride this horse on which they’ve strapped their wagons up until the point they’re all heading toward the edge of the cliff with no hope of stopping.

“A majority of the members of the House must vote for these charges in order to impeach the president. After the charges of misconduct are filed, the Senate has the power to try impeachment cases like a court. Two-thirds of the senators must vote for conviction.” It would take 24 Republicans voting for impeachment along with all the Democrats - not inconceivable, if he continues on the path he’s on without serious changes in the early days of his presidency, but it would have to be a very serious charge for the Senate to vote 2/3rds against him. Can a president be impeached for something he did before he was elected or took office? That’s where it gets interesting. https://www.quora.com/Can-a-president-be-impeached-for-crimes-committed-before-becoming-president

And the Twitter thing - holy crap. EVERY ONE of his advisers is surely telling him to give it up, and the fact that he won’t listen to the good advice of all the people around him should give every American serious concern about what else he will not listen to from the smart(er) people who he’s surrounding himself with.

But it wasn’t the policy aspect that the Left loathed, rather, Trump’s despicable personality traits. The elites couldn’t believe there’d be enought deplorables to get Trump elected.

I think it’s a mix of both, at least speaking personally and based on people I know. His personality is certainly a huge factor – to me just him being who he is should’ve disqualified him from being a realistic contender in peoples’ minds. But then there are policy positions as well – from the wall, to dismantling environmental regulations, to bringing coal back (huh?), to his tax policies that experts across the board agree will lead to further deficit and economic turmoil. Oh and the fact that he hasn’t even to this day shown much detail in to any of his plans – Obamacare will be repealed and replaced with something beautiful, trust me! A majority of his policies wouldn’t even line him up with being a conservative…so for many people who voted for him, do they just vote for whomever has an R next to their name and not really think of how their vote aligns with their beliefs?

But given where we are, let’s at least take some of our dignity back and settle for Pence and his backward views instead of Trump and having no clue what the hell we’re in for.

I called Hillary a disaster from the beginning. Liberals, many of them I’d call elites , many of them in my extended family, could say nothing but, “But Donald Trump!” as if those words would be the panacea. I also did not see Bernie as viable, though in retrospect, he may well have beaten Trump, and would surely not have been bothered in the least by the ageism that Trump would surely have practiced against him.

Protestors who are speaking out against Trump at his inauguration and elsewhere are playing directly into his hand. They need to be protesting the DNC, Nancy Pelosi, et al, for throwing the election. And for the record, I voted for Barack Obama twice and while perhaps disappointed, I have no regrets. Would that Mitt Romney were the Republican candidate for POTUS this year; he’d have clobbered HRC, I expect.

The way Pence works is that Trump will be worse for everybody, but Pence will only be worse for America.
