I pulled into the parking lot of my daughter’s day care yesterday to find this car parked there. In in instant my mind went through the following thoughts:

Weird, car parked here overnight?

Wait, no, it’s been plowed underneath it.

What’s up with the passenger’s window?

Oh, holy shit this person DROVE here?

Kinja'd!!!

Notice, they are about 6' short of the curb that a normal human would pull up to in front of the car - I know it’s hard to see in this pic, but look at the next one down. I wonder why? OH, they could barely see. Right.

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

To be fair - no wait I don’t care about being fair here - but anyway I didn’t walk around to the other side. Maybe those windows were perfectly clear, and this person drove everywhere in full oppo to the left. It is a WRX after all.

Draw a giant phallic object on their passanger side, then they’ll be forced to scrape off the snow, or leave it and leave no doubt in people’s minds that they’re a dick.

Really hoping they simply moved it to plow, like a car lot does.

That’s perfect , for a bonus also make a phallic item from snow on the roof and back window.

I had that thought, but then there aren’t really overnight cars there very often. There’s a homeless shelter nearby where they have overnight staff, but I know their shift ends at 8:00 and they’re always gone by the time I drop off. And basically one guy works every week night and he has a new Civic (manual no less!).

I do hope you’re right though.

I came very close to buying one when I got the BMW wagon. The biggest reason is that my sister just bought one in the exact trim package, options, color, etc that I would have wanted - used, even. So I wanted to be different.

It’s a Subaru, so they’re fine. That’s the kind of foresight you want from the person watching your kid.

You should have trolled them by cleaning the rest of their windows off.

I just feel like the snow in the rim (at 180* from the ground) would have come off in transit, but not at idle.

That is a sharp observation. And probably correct

Haha, at least I’m pretty sure it wasn’t one of the teachers. Child care doesn’t really pay enough as a career... but that’s another topic.

Looks to have been moved a short distance. Slowly.

Snow still on the wheels, windshield and backlite not warmed up enough by defrosters to clear ice/fog. Passenger window lowered just enough to see while traversing a parking lot...

But there’s also some slush up against the back of the front wheel well, so it was driven a bit on a dirty/salted road. However, there isn’t much melting of snow at the bottom of the windshield, so that says it wasn’t running too long.

Very mysterious.

That slush could be there for days and weeks if it’s been cold enough.

I think I’d just buy it anyway, just in a different colour.

Silver was actually my preferred colour for the WRX but that would’ve made 3 silver cars in a row for me so I went for world rally blue instead.

I may change my tone if I start getting pulled over regularly but so far I’m enjoying being different from most cars on the road with mine being boldly coloured.

Actually I take it back. I would rather the blue, if I were buying new. Black is good too, but that blue is amazing. My current car is a nice blue, by pure coincidence...

Also it occurred to me this was the second time I was deterred from buying a Subie, specifically a blue WRX in the first instance. My first real job out of college I was working at a marina. I had a trusty old Honda Accord with 200k miles I’d had for a few years of college, and I thought I’d get something newer now that I had a paycheck. Top of my list was a blue WRX sedan, 5 speed (obviously), with the gold-ish wheels, because rally car.

But there was this woman who worked at the marina who was the previous owner’s daughter, the worst kind of family-buisness carryover you could imagine. She was grumpy, averse to change, and had never worked anywhere else in her life. She always lived beyond her means and felt free to share all her life’s problems with everyone, and felt entitled to everything because she always had Daddy to help her out. Her bratty son went and got a blue WRX sedan with the same wheels and he of course put a stupid exhaust on it and lowered it, and then crashed it after about a year. I got such a bad taste from that, I couldn’t then bring myself to replace a perfectly good Honda with that exact car.

I bought a suburban instead, lol.

Hah, that’s funny, it would probably sour me too.

At some point you’re gonna have to put something like that aside though, say nuts to and buy yourself a car like that.

I was shopping for trucks, something with four driven wheels when needed and plenty of practicality. I never really enjoy driving a full size truck though, the Tacoma is too expensive and other midsize trucks can’t be had with a stick so I went looking at Subarus. I’m very happy I didn’t go for the sensibility of a Crosstrek or Forester and bought a WRX instead. It’s great fun and practical enough. Get yourself one someday, it’ll be worth it.

True, I’m sure I will get one someday. Funny, I was looking at Tacomas too when I got the bmw wagon. The same year and mileage Tacomas were more money than the bmw.

Also in the summer, I have my truck on the road, so I can use that for truck things. The wagon does 99% of what I need the rest of the year and it’s fun to drive, too. It does feel heavy compared to a WRX, even though the weight is similar, but just due to having less power, softer suspension, and heavier steering. It’s still a good bit of fun to drive though, and it’s nicer on the highway than a subaru, I think.

I would very seriously consider a WRX wagon as my next car, though, and they’ve been around long enough that finding a good one wouldn’t be too hard. Just finding one that hasn’t been messed with too much is the trick I think.
