Kinja'd!!!

I decided to focus on changing out some of the mechanical bits. The OEM intake was swapped over to a lighter warm-air setup and I changed out the stock starter for a lightweight gear reduction unit which should also require less power to run. Weight savings from today is 6lbs. Total so far is 98.5lbs.

OEM intake weight 5 lbs——>aftermarket warm air setup 3lbs

OEM starter 11 lbs———-> gear reduction mini-starter 7lbs

Planning on moving the battery to the trunk? Adds a couple of pounds of wire, but still moves weight from the front to the back, which is what you want in a FWD car like this.

Bumper bars are next. Screw safety.

is this going to be a track thing? I see some other things that could go. Hood support, wiper spray bottle and pump (oh wait, thats your coolant tank, isn’t it?), plastic cowl thing int the front of the engine compartment. Are you gutting the interior? Nevermind, just noticed previous posts. Looks like a fun project.

A lighter battery seems like an easy win. One of these puppies could save you ~20lbs.

I’m loving this. Keep it going!

Could you replace that heavy battery with the 7 lb Braille? That would shave so much weight off that front overhang.

What about the super heavy crash beams under the bumpers and not sure if your car has the door crash beams?

Oh and the plastic liner on top of your bumper and radiator can go.

Also ditch the alternator/belt, less power sap, less weight. Ofcourse only for the run.

I’m probably going to keep it up front but downsize it with a lighter and smaller unit

Thanks! yeah, the battery downsize is a for sure thing. I’ve seriously thought about how extreme I want to take it into superleggera territory. The bumpers have crossed my mind but that all depends if I want to keep it streetable or track only. We’ll just have to see!

Yeah with this car, I’m in that mentality where I’m seeing EVERYTHING as needless heft. I eventually have to draw that line somewhere lol!

Yeah, those things have a good powerband for around town driving. They put them in the S-10 pickup trucks, so yeah!
