There is a magnet in the pad, and a small on on the back of my phone.
It’s also really sturdy, no shaking on a rough dirt road. The magnet does not affect my phone in any way.

Does it wreak havoc with the built-in compass though?

I have the same one. Sandwiched the magnet inside the phone case and it’s awesome. Best car mod ever!!!

I didn’t want to deal with the hassle of removing the adhesive from my dashboard, so I bought the window-mount version. The mount holds the phone very well, but the long arm requires me to brace the phone against the dash if I don’t want it to wiggle all over the place. Not ideal.
I placed the metal pad between the inner and outer layers of my phone case. It still grips fine.

My dad has one too. Desgin wise, it’s so minimalist. Most other phone mounts are bulky & instusive.

How heat sensitive is the adhesive?

For sure. I had a Ram Mount in my old car. It was plenty sturdy, but very bulky. This as (or more) sturdy, and a much better design.

Yep, love these phone mounts. One point though, the plate on the phone is not a magnet, just a metal plate. The adhesive on mine didn’t hold all that well, so I switched to the suction cup version of the same thing.
