I enjoy the extreme extra mile of them building a cabinet frame around the entire fridge. You didn’t have to, but Goddammit you did it anyway. Also, the barn door... They’re admittedly kind of cool (when installed properly and not scraping something).

Must be nice.

Thats actually really nice, I was expecting some monstrosity of a kitchen. I would prefer a smooth cooktop however.

I really like the fridge enclosure. Would be A+ if the drawers matched the cabinets.

I believe the attempt was to make the lower cabinets match the countertop in color, and to have the upper cabinets be a woodgrain. And lots of brushed and stainless metal. And yes, even the upper cabinets were textured.

It reminds me of how temporal most styles are in housing these days. The barn doors are such a fad and they will age horribly. Aside from the layout, some incongruous components, and materials, this just looks like the 1960s version of modern and painfully dated.

Not that I have a solution, but all these styles have played out. It’s just as big of a train wreck as the McMansions that people keep building with no cohesive design/style. You’d thing that with all our technology we could make decent looking houses again.

Now I see what they’re going for. Not my cup of tea, but still really nice none the less.

I’ve come to find that I enjoy talking about kitchens and home renovations more and more each day. I guess growing up’s not so mad after all...

That is pretty cool. I would wander around forever looking for the fridge, though.

I feel like that door looks better than it functions. It would probably stay open and never move. I’m also not digging the back splash. Needs some color. Maybe a soft teal, or orange. Unless this was done for add resale value, in which case white washing is a safe bet.

I think it’s a very polarizing design. If I was house shopping and saw that kitchen, I’d shake my head and walk out without looking at the rest of the house. Shrug.

I like it, except for the barn door, which seems pointless. Needs some color, but that could be accomplished with accessories.

I think the fridge works like a wall oven where the appliance and cabinet are specially built to be built-in style

Have they never heard of a pocket door? Both my California houses had them.

And those cabinets are what? maybe 6" deep, that’s going to be useful.

It all falls apart with the narrow vented range hood and cheap looking white cabinets under the counter though.

My fridge is a bit like this although it’s less “custom cabinet enclosure” and more “cabinets come right up to it on both sides.” It looks great unless you have to unplug the fridge to fix the icemaker or something and want to do so without beating the shit out of the cabinets and counters on each side.

While that’s a nice kitchen, I can’t say I’d want to live with it. I imagine the fridge will have to work harder and potentially overheat. And then what the hell do you do when you have to eventually replace that fridge? Good luck finding one with the same dimensions.

I worked in a home integration company for about a year and a half, and I have to admit, the barn door thing is not an East Coast fad at all. I cant say I saw a single one at any of our job sites.

What I can say is that wealthy clients are nuts. Im getting ready to move into a little house with a friend of mine and I have some little tweaks I want around the house based on some of the things I saw, but if youve never worked in some of these houses, it would be hard to wrap your head around it.

The cabinetry around appliances is standard issue though. My parents house was built in the 70s and has that. The only difference now is that refridgerators are a lot deeper, so its a PITA to reach the above cabinets.

If you’re all about contemporary kitchens, how do you feel about whole house integration? I know its quite expensive, but there are plenty of ways to connect your home even at Home Depot or Lowes.
