OK, it has come time to replace the Tribeca.

Kinja'd!!!

I’m thinking 2013 X1, 2013 Grand Santa Fé or 2010 LR4 Turbo Diesel. Any other ideas?

Kinja'd!!!

Maybe too small.

Kinja'd!!!

The Tribeca is getting a bit tired. I need a car to take over its duties as people/furniture/dog hauler.

AWD/4WD Required

High-ish ground clearance.

At least some Luxury

Must be nice-ish to drive.

High-ish ground clearance, battle vehicle. I will drive it on long trips, to carry shit/people around, comfort is important.

My wife’s ‘13 X1 has been the most reliable BMW I’ve ever owned. I have a rwd model with the turbo fourbanger. We toured the western US with it for three weeks with camping gear and two kids. BMW’s AWD doesn’t do a whole lot especially offroad. I think it is meant more for snow.

Will it be armored?

Most likely.

Semi-random question, but is the Passat armored?

Nah, Passat Variant is just a regular Passat.

Nice to know, the X1 is currently the most likely candidate, I’m a single 26 year old, I don’t really need a big car.

AWD requirement is more for the beach house/ shitty third world country roads and the occasional slippery hill.

Any Land Rover/Range Rover product, various forms of Land Cruiser or whatever else Toyota sells down there, Audi Q5 or Q7, BMW X3 or X5, Mercedes GLK or ML, Grand Cherokee, Volvo XC60 or XC90, VW Touareg, Ford Explorer (do you get those?), or a  Kia Sorento or Mohave.

Basically any SUV that falls somewhere between a Chevy Traxx and a Ford Excursion and has leather seats would fit that description.

It’s a good compromise between having a car that’s fun to drive and still having some ground clearance. My wofe has had hers for three years and I still enjoy driving it. Looks great in Valencia Orange.

Out of the 3 I would go with the X1. The Wayne Rover will find a way to ruin your wallet and the Santa Fe is, well it’s a Santa Fe.

Wrong, it’s a wagon variation of the regular Passat. Hence: “Variant” :D

E70 X5.

Kinja'd!!!

Will haul anything (split tailgate 7 seater), comes with AWD and adequate ground clearance, luxurious and arguably the best normal SUV to drive on road.

In the real world, the smaller displacement and diesel models are surprisingly economical yet still have enough grunt, and depreciation hit it already.

Love our X1. 2.8i xdrive. I’m 6'4 and fit great but no one can sit behind me. If I could do it again I’d spring for the lighting package. Base headlights aren’t that great. 41k miles so far with no issues other than being rearended by a Jetta. Put new tires on at 36k miles. BF Goodrich GForce comp 2 a/s. Way better than the run flats that came with it. Thinking about a JB4 tune this summer. Bring you over 300 hp. The turbo 6 is a great motor but only came with the old 6 speed auto. I think the turbo 4 8 speed is a better all around combo.
