I think it recently hit that sweet spot of age where it stopped looking outdated and now looks good again. Similarly, I think the Fifth gen really hasn’t fared well against the Sixth. I still think it’s a good looking car, but it just looks noticeably aged in comparison with new models.

My 2nd grade class yearbook had a section where we could all vote for a “class favorite car.” Among all the other pleb nominations, I nominated the SVT Cobra R. I won.

In Forza Horizon 3, the Cobra R is in the “retro muscle” class.

The fifth looked dated when it came out. It was a big problem with the excessively-retro styling they incorporated.

The ones that I can’t see ever becoming desirable are the fourth gens before the new edge facelift. They just look bad these days. They aged horribly and their design is depressing.

I like the New Edge styling better than the earlier SN95, but I’m disappointed that they didn’t do something about the cabin. The interior curves still match the ’94-’98 models better.

The New Edge styling was the perfect response to the “soap bar” SN95.

Indeed. The New Edge was the best looking Mustang until the current gen showed up. Not retro, clearly a Mustang.

They need a drop though. Not much, just 1.5", to get the stance right. The stock 4x4 ride height is awful.

When it was introduced, Ford made a big deal about the return of the tri-bar tail-lamps, side scoops, and the running horse badge in the grill. And for good reason. But take that away, and you’re left with something that looks very much like a Celica.

Kinja'd!!!

’Course, this isn’t the first time that the Celica and Mustang have had *cough* “similarities”...

For high end sports cars and supercars, sure. For affordable enthusiast cars with even cheaper options on the low end... the “Base model is always the best looking one” rule doesn’t seem to apply.

V6 Pony cars especially. Small wheels, high riding suspension, lack of accessories the body was designed for; like fog lights. They’re an obvious attempt to soften the car for those who care more about comfort, and an obvious attempt to reduce the price of the car, both at the cost of the looks.

Plus, the reputation tends to get dragged down too, the base versions are rarely maintained to the standard that enthusiasts who own the higher model versions strive for.

Thats kind of my point. I dont know about you, but I dont see many Terminators or Crobras. I do however see a lot of shitty V6s.

Kinja'd!!! "CobraJoe" (cobrajoe)
01/17/2017 at 12:54, STARS: 0

Why should that be the reasoning behind the rule that the base model looks the best out of all the options?

01/17/2017 at 12:58, STARS: 0

I mean you already said what I said in that post:

“Sports/Super cars that have a high enough base price, end coming out of the factory right the first time. By “right”, I mean as the designers/engineers intended.”

I just dont think the new edge mustang looks good / has aged well.

But I drive a Crossfire, so take that for what its worth.
