By the time I can afford a nice car (the Apocalypse, perhaps?), the wagon will be effectively dead in the States.

Guess I’ll be shopping for liftbacks! By 2030, those 2016 430i GCs will be stupid cheap! That is, if my dollar is still worth anything and if I live in a city that hasn’t banned cars.

Kinja'd!!!

Honda, why you no lift?!?

Kinja'd!!!

Eh, who am I kidding. Probably can only afford an old Mahzdah

Kinja'd!!!

Shit, I’m just going to end up buying a sedan someday, aren’t I....

Can vouch for the 6 hatch, it’s pretty nice.

The liftback is the antithesis of a wagon.

Assuming we make it to 2030. Hell Scoob might outlive us, jkm will never get a truck, and Hondrabroili Ravioli will be claiming to perfect the ultimate shitpost.

I feel ya. Although I’m not into wagons I do long to purchase a brand new vehicle one day. Even though it’s financially terrible to buying $2,000 cars of CL. We can dream though :’(

I had one of those bullshit 328i GTs as a loaner and the cargo space is pretty much the same as a trunk. Only a small dog that most BMW owners use as a fashion accessory would fit in those “hatches”.

Oh. Maybe my doggo would not fitto. Guess I’ll get an X1... a FIRST GEN, dammit.

My wife DDs a first gen X1 and our dog fits back there with just enough space to be comfy. He’s a pitbull/boxer mix and weighs about 70 lbs. he has a pitbull head with a small boxer type body (big chest, skinny waist). You can pick the X1s up relatively cheap now. I’ll sell you mine if you want to come to AZ.

I have yet to own a sedan. The closest I came was my 6i hatch.

It hasn’t been a conscious effort to avoid sedans, it’s just worked out that way.

By the time I can afford a nice Japanese sports car (ie. now), Japan has stopped making them. The solution is to buy an old Japanese sports car. This way they’re even cheaper - the older they get, the sooner the date you can afford them becomes!

Seriously, 3 300ZXs and an MR2 since 2010, loving it. Just get a used wagon! LIVE YOUR DREAM!

You do get a couple of things with a liftback, though - the ability to remove the parcel tray and put cargo in that takes up the space between the window and the tray, and the larger cargo opening into the main area.

I brought home a recumbent bike the other day, that wouldn’t have had a snowball’s chance in hell of fitting in a Corolla sedan due to the load configuration and the parcel shelf, or a hatchback due to length, yet my Prius liftback (same size basically, thanks to the Corolla getting bigger) swallowed it no problem, just like a wagon.

Maybe you’ll find a special-ordered Volvo V90 wagon (as opposed to a V90 XC).

I fail to see how anything that fits in a lift back won’t fit in anything but the smallest hatchbacks.

It’s the length.

Liftbacks give you the cargo length of a sedan, with the cargo opening of a hatchback. And, for tall but not long cargo, they’re usually about as good as a hatchback (sure, they dip down after the C pillar, but hatchbacks barely have anything after the C pillar at all).

(Also, the last one you posted... is that a Forester? I’d lean towards calling that one a wagon anyway.)

I don’t know how Toyota does it, but a BMW 328i sedan isn’t going to be any longer than a BMW hatchback of the same size categorey (X1). I’ve owned both and driven a sedan, lift back, hatchback, and wagon BMW, and there is no way the lift back had more space than the hatchback. I also would consider the forester more of a wagon. I posted it to show the similarity in cargo area between the X1, which is a hatchback, and the Forester.

the present you has anger issues, hopes the future you get that worked out before you start driving your vintage Camry Venza wagon. Cars don’t last long when you drive angry.

You would be less angry if you would of bought this instead of that celica......
