I didn’t have it grounded well. Shoulda had a Camry grounded to the ground.

2012 Sentra sister in law. Left the radio car off won’t start. I tried jumping it and on only get a machine gun sound

Not good enough jumper cable connection. Get a good connection made and let the dead battery charge for 3-4 minutes.

Chattering sound from the starter usually means there isn’t enough power to turn the motor over. Let it sit with the jumper cables on for a little bit, then try again.

either rev your motor up when she tries to start it, or just let your car charge her car for a few minutes

So you try and start it and it makes a machine gun sound? Sounds like a starter or starter solenoid if a jump isn’t working...

Agree with the folks saying moar power...have had this happen...check connections, let it sit for a bit, or rev engine.

Not to insult your intelligence but the jumpers are in the correct place?

might also be small jumper wires......... i definitely agree with the rev it up, 17-1800, and walk off for a minute or two.......

I have always left the car running for 5 min to give the dead battery a chance to charge with the good car.

Normally works right away. But like others said clicking sound means not enough power to the starter. Did you clean the battery poles first. Make sure they make a good contact.

I gave it a few. I think I had it grounded to painted metal which doesn’t work

Can confirm, painted metal doesn’t always work.

Is it cold out where you are? I recently had to jump my Grand Prix using my wife’s LGT, and it took at least 10 minutes to bring the dead battery up to where it would start the car. If it was warmer out, it would probably not have taken even half that amount of time.

Did you resolve this yet?

When I jumped my former Sable (weeks later after I had sold it... Guy’s girlfriend left a plug-in seat warmer on or something...) with my pickup, it took FOREVER to charge up the dead batter. I guess my little ‘Yota vs the 3.0 Duratec was a lot to ask. I probably idled for 5 minutes followed up by occasional revving. Sounded like a machine gun the first two times but after a longer wait for the third, it did finally start up.

Yes I think it was just a bad connection on the ground

Frostybballs cold. I think that could have factored in

I hooked them up backwards once. Was trying to figure out why the car still wouldn’t start and the cable was getting really warm! Don’t cross the streams!
