Kinja'd!!!

Nice, but I wish it had the shorter overhangs of the concept. Safety regs and all that, but I’d love to modify a 1st gen to match this one, especially those wheels.

They’re pretty good, and prices probably aren’t going to get much lower.

That said, I’ve driven a 986 Boxster S and I like my 944S better. Just sayin’.

Cool! Care to share some details? How was the reliability? Did you have to deal with the IMS? Are they hard to work on, access-wise? Did you have the base models, or S’s? I took an S for a quick test drive, and it felt great. I don’t think a base Boxster will satisfy me though. The S felt juust quick enough to feel like a special machine. Any less and I fear it may be underwhelmig. If only I could find one for under 9k...

Those are 964 Turbo wheels, I believe. Putting them on a Boxster definitely elevates the look of the car. My favorite part of that concept has to be those propeller vents on the inside!

I never cared much for the 964, but it did bring with it some good looking parts. I liked these wheels more for the color combination than the design, with that cool bronze color being a nice contrast to the silver paint (especially with the polished rims).

Reliability on one was great, the other was a lemon haha. The reliable one I had for 3 years, put 60k miles or so on it. Only thing that failed was water pump once, otherwise I just did consumables (brakes, stuff like that). Neither was an S, one auto, one not. Those are the only cars I have recently had with <290 HP and it was plenty, you flog the shit out of them and they’re plenty fast. 200 hp is a lot in a car that small. The handling is out of this world, it ruined anything else for me. No IMS issues on either and I did not do proactive maint on it. What I’ve seen/heard is basically if you’re over 60-80k miles (which you will be on pretty much any 986 now) you are safe.

Hard to work on - absolutely. That was the one thing I hated, you have to take off the convertible top to do any serious work, I only did it once. Not sure I’d buy one again solely because of that, I do a lot of my own work and that makes it time consuming/expensive.

let me know if you have any other questions
