The CLK550 needs "magnets"

So MB calls solenoids, “magnets”, and the ones on my passenger side for the intake/exhaust cams are faulty; throwing a code (P0012). So, I looked up how much $$$ this would cost, and to my surprise, they are only ~$25 each, online at least. Gonna call the dealer tomorrow to see if they’re in stock and not stupidly overpriced.

Already got these to help remove the old sensors/magnets too since Torx heads are graciously used on the bolts.

Seems simple to change myself as well. Few bolts here and there, slap on some new o-rings, call it a day.

My CLK for your time.

So, is a CLK expensive to maintain?

So far, no. But once I hit the A and B services, it will be. That comes up in 8k more miles for “A” service, which is about $300

$300 doesn’t sound too bad.

An A service should not cost that much. I’d be curious to see it itemized. It’s basically just lube sunroof, lube hinges, inspection, oil change. My shop charges half that. But your dealer might include a few other items as well.

Those are common and easy. I recommend doing all four. The box end of a 1/4" wrench will get the bolts you can’t get a socket onto. The dealer will have them in stock unless they either just ran out or are incompetent.

Good to hear you think that’s high. I pulled that amount though from Google . Probably not the exact amount for a dealer here in LA.

Hmm, LA might just normally be higher? IIRC the actual price at my shop is right around $175 for an A and $300 for a B. What year and how many miles on your car?

2008, about 37,000 miles

Should be due for brake flush (every 20k), air filters (40k) and trans service (40k) by mileage.
