It’s rare to see this stuff posted on Oppo but surely there are a few people here that like a good house, techno, and trance mix? Made by yours truly.

Kinja'd!!!

This type of music is a passion of mine and DJing is a fun hobby. Aside from spinning at a friend’s party once I just play around with my mixer at home and put together 2hr-long sets with the best tracks I come across when listening to other DJ’s sets and scouring sites like Beatport. Breaking out and becoming famous is not really my goal... but it wouldn’t hurt!

So for those of you that enjoy these genres or just want to listen to something different, here’s Episode #20 of my ‘Derailed’ series.

I listen to a lot of drum & bass, and occasionally post a song or two here.

I do see the occasional posts. I went through a D&B phase that then mutated into dubstep a few years back. Nothing cooler than a D&B/jungle rave. Every now and then I go through my library and relisten to Dieslboy, Sub Focus, Camo & Krooked, Netsky, High Contrast, Chase & Status, etc...

I can dig it. I don’t do CD’s or the controller thing though.

Jungle, D&B, House... and Happy Hardcore is totally a guilty pleasure of mine.

Probably going to add Serato to the mix as well... pun intended.

Been listening to a lot of synthwave lately, especially the more dark synth variety. Lazerhawk, Dance With The Dead, Kavinsky, Starcadian, Gost, Carpenter Brut, Magic Sword, etc.

If budget and - more so - space weren’t such big issues I’d kill to have that setup. My jog wheels might as well not exist they’re that useless. I bought a Traktor F1 to append to the setup but don’t use it as much as I should.

I haven’t made it to one yet, unfortunately. When I saw Flux Pavilion in 2015, Wilkinson was originally supposed to open for him but canceled at the last minute. Flux played some Noisia in his set though.

Camo & Krooked have an album coming out around May, and High Contrast and Sub Focus might each have one this year too.

I even like local events without any big names. Those guys really play the shit out of their tracks and the vibe is just so fun.

BTW, take a listen to this song in full. Mark Sherry produces amazing tech-trance but the breakdown has a bit of a twist ;)

My favorite artist is ATB hands down.

I’m probably going to pick up a Denon DS1 for a DVS at some point along with a set of Novation Dicers.

The DS1 is limited to Serato DJ and isn’t backwards compatible with ScratchLive, which is a deal breaker for a lot of folks. I’ve never used a DVS setup though, so I never got familiar with Scratchlive, and since Serato DJ is the SSL replacement I figure I might as well just use that and save myself a load of cash.

I know of only one local drum & bass DJ, and she doesn’t produce. I don’t know how often she even DJs anymore since she just had a baby. She’s pretty cool, though. Runs a vinyl shop.

I mixed breakbeat back in the 90's, it leaned towards Jamaican dancehall more than hip hop though. I’ve been eyeing a launchpad just to mess around with, looks like they could be fun. DJ’s were just beginning to use computers at live shows, but I barely had the money for the equipment I had let alone a PC with a $2000 MIDI card. It’s crazy the amount of value you can get with modern setups. I used to have a mixer, a Roland 505, one table, and some shitty sampler. If I recorded it was straight to cassette. Now it’s no big deal to record every sound you produce, that’s pretty awesome if you ask me.

Edit: your mix is on point and so are your choices for samples.

Aren’t you happy with not having to rely on a computer? As much as I like Traktor I do view it a potential point of failure. Your setup and even CDJs get rid of that.

Absolutely agreed, but I wouldn’t mind being able to spin downloaded content from time to time. Record shopping can be expensive and time consuming so being able to increase my spinnable options without having to drop $20 on two tracks is tempting. I’ll never abandon the vinyl though, so the DVS would be more of a supplement than a replacement.

I wonder if we’ll ever be able to 3D print records... because that would be pretty awesome.

I wanted the 505 but my budget at the time only allowed for the addition of this little guy, which I’ve barely ever used but can’t seem to part with.
