It’s astonishing how they wear you down until you accept as normal things you never thought you’d tolerate. Still, that’s pretty far gone.

You know, maybe I have rose colored glasses, but I don’t remember my parent’s cars ever being as much of a disaster as to need that built in vacuum, let alone this which should require a hazmat team. My little brother did make a mess of the dining room wall next to his high-chair, but the cars were always reasonably clean.

My partners car would look like that if left to his own devices, in fact one of his cars (an 01 SEAT Ibiza Sport he bought new) did get like that once when we weren’t living together for a while once. It is my job to look after both cars apparently!

This was back when I was in high school (16-17 y/o) so before smart phones existed. Hell, I’m not even sure if the Moto Razor existed yet. Needless to say, no sr20. But I’ll tell you a few.

I worked over the summer part time doing inventory on repoed cars. This involved writing everything down on inventory sheets and stuffing items into big plastic bags, sealing and storing the bags for 90-120 days. As you can imagine, if you’re not paying your car note, you’re probably not spending the time to clean it (or maintain it). Once every 2-3 weeks we’d get a car in so full of garbage (rotting food, candy, general trash) that we couldn’t/wouldn’t inventory them. Occasionally we would bug bomb them to keep the roaches/ants from infesting other cars on the lot or the office.

Take that picture above and think of that stuff piled several inches thick of random goo.

We also got hoarder cars packed full of stuff. Not necessarily gross, just newspapers, receipts, and general junk. Things most people would throw away. I knew a hoarder lady who filled her old 7 series full of trash. Literally full up to the windows of boxes and papers except the driver’s seat which had minimal trash/papers. I know she was kicked out of 3 houses she rented for trashing everything.

There was one car that had 2 garbage bags almost full of sex toys and lubes. Overall the car was fairly clean.

I don’t remember mine being that bad either, although cleaning the cars was a fun and exciting family activity... that involved a shop vac, dishsoap, and a sponge... fortunately no diapers but I digress. I do remember once pulling out the back seat of one of the cars and it being an absolutely tragic mess of nasty old cereal, candies, etc. But not as bad as the above. We were never given that volume of candies either. It honestly looks like a bad halloween party that no one could face cleaning up and it just got left like that until someone got desperate.

Every minivan we get is usally a nightmare, near or at the same level you have here. One went as far as to have loaded diapers under the seats. It makes me really question why I haven’t had a vasectomy yet.

Sadly there are a lot of people who see a car as a tool, merely a way to get from A to B. Let it get filthy inside then pay someone to clean it. Let the rattles and failures to start happen often enough and then pay a mechanic to fix it.

What they don’t realise is that this filth has an adverse effect on any childs well being as mould grows and then spores are released as they are disturbed and become airborne.

Some people thankfully aren’t that way.

Hell one lass I know was disgusted with herself that she asked me to clean this after her two daughters had made a mess inside after a holiday.

I saw a hoarder minivan a couple weeks ago. From the B-pillar back it was full to the ceiling. There was so much stuff in the front passenger side it was lobbing over into her seat, she was shoved all the way up to the driver’s side window and had MAYBE 20" of space.

One more I just remembered if you still care: a newer Nissan Maxima that was like a fancy premium model. It wasn’t bad or anything, it was actually decently clean. It was the big collapsible baton just chilling in the back. Like something straight out of a riot officer’s setup. Was heavy and I had to basically power slam the tip into the garage floor to collapse it again.

Kinja'd!!! "S65" (granthp)

That is very strange, out of all the things I’d expect in a Maxima a collapsible baton is not one of them
