If you look at my posts, it should be clear that I am no fan of Donald Trump nor his coterie. But it’s important to separate a person’s politics from their person. I would argue that choosing to enforce your religious beliefs on others through political power inectricably links your person to your politics. You don’t have to give Pence the benefit of the doubt, because there is no doubt about the type of person he is. He has frequently sought to limit the rights of groups weaker than himself , and has been outspoken in doing so.

You may have more experience, and more to base your position on, than I do WRT Mr. Pence. I go to church with people who share my religious values, but we are far apart politically. And it’s a pretty dogmatic religion. And I am definitely among its more liberal members.

I think that may be an overly simplistic statement. I pay $1,500/mo for healthcare insurance that I cannot afford to use because of the deductible. That’s more than my mortgage and HELOC payment combined. So healthcare insurance is being kept out of reach from others beside the poor.

The guy’s beliefs aren’t a secret. He’s pretty outspoken. The crux of the issue may be that what some people view as “politics”, others view as basic human rights. I couldn’t care less what religion someone is, it has no place in secular governance. Even the Christians who first came to this continent did so to escape religiously influenced government. I live next to Mennonite and Orthodox Jewish communities. Both offer up a very good example of how to exist within a secular society.
