CHECK

We desperately needed a new TV, our 10 year old Emerson was beginning to get failing pixels. Interesting how cheap 4K TVs are. Flight Sim X looks amazeballs on it! <3 Now, just to upgrade our gfx card.

How did you get that to fit. It seems impossible

I’ve got a 50" rear-projector. Good thing about trucks is they don’t have a vertical limit to the things you can put in. I’ve got another rear-projector, 42", which is the single largest thing I’ve ever put in the Niva... And I had to unbolt the back seat to make it fit, and there was only one angle it fit through the rear opening, and then it needed pivoted to get it to sit flat. Getting it back out was interesting to say the least.

Rear projectors are mostly air inside, just a lamp and some mirrors. The 42" I can pick up and carry myself, it’s only 30lbs or so, it’s just awkward cause it’s so big. The 50" on the other hand has a massive mdf speaker cabinet below it (GREAT built in sound), and weighs somewhere in the neighbourhood of 150-200lbs because of it. I can still get it into the truck myself, just picking up one end at a time, and it’s on casters. One of the advantages of a smaller truck.

I enjoy taking my mini to pick up large items. Especially if they are being loaded by a store employee.

4k is face melting.

May I suggest rewatching all of Planet Earth?

In about ‘07 my parents bought me and my brother a 32" Panasonic 720p LCD. It was $700CAD. Now you can get a 4K 52" for $600.

I really want to upgrade to get full use of my One S.

My old 32" 720p Emerson cost me $570 in 2007 from Walmart, the 4K 48" Vizio was only $380 from Best Buy (ugh). Yay, technology!

Are you sure it’s a rear projector and not a CRT? That’s a pretty heavy empty box, unless it has a massive speaker cabinet than mine.

4K TVs have been pretty reasonable for a while. We bought a 55" mid-range Samsung for $700-something about 6 months ago.

No idea! It has a massive speaker system and it does have a giant projector bulb in it (plus really bad viewing angles). The bulk of the weight seems to come from the inch thick wood and metal framing??

Sounds like a very overkill rear projector to me then. My 42 isn’t so bad for viewing angles but the 50 is awful. I’d use the 42 more often except it gets very hot and starts smelling like burnt plastic if I don’t keep a fan pointed at the lamp. They were both free off kijiji though. Lol.

They just came out with a new Planet Earth II! It aired on BBC but it’s coming out on BluRay/DVD pretty soon. Absolutely brilliant. I liked it even more than Planet Earth the original.
