Kinja'd!!!

The 9090DB is having a problem with its right channel, so while I wait for my repair guy to not be on vacation, I’m using the spare Nikko Alpha II.

Kinja'd!!!

It’s got power, nearly as much as the Sansui. I don’t like the sound as much though, not as musical and no real character. I’m not objective enough about equipment to say for sure which is actually better, but I definitely prefer the sound of the big Sansui.

Kinja'd!!!

Poor thing. I’d run it anyways despite the weak right channel, but I’m worried I may damage something if it’s not running right.

Is it weird that I do professional audio systems, but couldn’t care what my setup is like at home. I like the completely wrong sound mix when it comes to car audio (all bass, minimal mids and highs). I know what a good mix is supposed to sound like, it’s my job, but it is not my personal taste.

You can pry my 15's out of my cold dead hands, yes even at almost 40 years old. I’m that guy, lol. I also have a $15 Boss head unit in one of my cars, it’s the bestest.

My home system consists of a Kustom bass reflex box with four 15" woofers in it which is powered by a 1600 watt Soundtech amp, plus two powered JBL Eon monitors with 15" woofers and horns.

My neighbors love me.

I can’t relate at all, but doing something for a living doesn’t require you to care for the thing, so while perhaps unexpected, I don’t think it’s weird

I don’t have much for the high end sound gear by any means but I like the sound of my setup I have in my little media room. Some old Klipsch KG 3.5's my dad let get beat up in storage that I fixed and cleaned up, along with a Velodyne sub I got off of craigslist for $50. My receiver is a Pioneer VSX-921 I just replaced a bad HDMI board on.

Those Klipsch towers look really cool, I haven’t heard many, but I really like the sound of Klipschorns.

I’m not really a fan of modern receivers, but they can definitely get the job done

I like the cage on the ST70 but it hides the warm glow of the tubes. If you can get your hands on a Conrad Johnson PV 5 it is the best combo I have ever heard.

Yeah I like to run it without the cage sometimes so I can see the tubes better. I shall look into that preamp, I’ve yet to listen to the ST70 on its own, I’ve only biamped with it and the Sansui, now the Nikko too. It’s not nearly enough amp on its own for the Infinitys, but at some point I’ll set it up with a smaller pair of speakers and see how it is

ADS L710's are the ticket.

I love older Hi Fi kit! I’ve got an old pair of 80's Kef C60's (that were about to be binned and are in brilliant condition!) hooked up to an old Marantz pm6010ose KI Sig amp (which I would love to replace with something like Sanusi or old NAD etc). The sound is so lovely from them, really fills the room and is lovely and warm.

Poor guy stuck in the corner....pull that bad boy out and toe it in so it can be seen in all it’s majesty! Cool rig.

My next speaker upgrade will be mid size or towers. I’d like to have a more natural full range sans sub for music that doesn’t need 18Hz. Currently run Focal bookshelves.

I do have my EPI 100's that are about to be refurbished. I bought some used drivers a few years ago but they didn’t last long, plus they were from a later vintage. Friend of mine located some and they are being given a once over. If I toast them again I’m going to get some new brand drivers from Human speakers. Going to refinish the cabinets too, did them in the 90's and they’ve been knocked about a bit. Hopefully the veneer can survive another go.

Big bookshelves can be wonderful, especially on stands. I use Realistic Optimus 800Cs for my computer/kitchen system, and my dad uses Celestion Ditton 33s for his main speakers. I definitely like my Infinty towers though, I think the only thing I’d replace them with is better old Infinitys, but we’ll see

I’ve never heard a Marantz, but I hear good things. I’d definitely recommend trying an old Sansui, there’s a long list of fantastic amps to choose from. I’m wanting an AU-5500, or a more powerful AU-series amp in the near future.

The Marantz is ok, nothing special tbh, the couple of year old Onkyo AV amp in my living room setup (hooked up to my Dali Zensor 1 5.1.2 system) drives the Kef’s better, but it does ok though it has an intermittent fault on the left channel that I need to get looked at or replace it. I really want something older, I hear amazing things about Sanusi’s but they are so expensive, as are the late 70's Pioneer’s I lust after............................

Oh and I found a couple of (bad) pics of my set up -

These are among the old Sansuis I want, but who knows when I’ll actually get one. The 9090DB sounds great and has tons of power. Worth about $1000-$1200 but we got it for free, so I’m gonna be hard pressed to find another amp that sounds good enough for me to drop probably more than $1000 on

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

Plus my speakers are such power hogs that I’d still be bi-amping, I’d either have to keep the Dynaco running the high end, or get two Sansui AUs, which would be pricey...

Oh god the bottom one looks so awesome, that is the sort of thing I want! Yeah spending money to replace things you got for free is always a hard choice. My speakers, amp and cd player were all free (though I had to replace the transport in the cd player), the only bits of my setup I bought are the dac and fancy usb cable to connect it to my my old laptop (already had some spare decent speaker cable), plus with spending so much money not long ago on the new living room setup means getting authorisation to spend on my old time setup will not really be forthcoming!!
