No, the Rebel turned into the Matador for 1971-78.
The Ambassador was Nash/Rambler/AMC’s big car flagship from 1927-74.
The Rebel and Matador were AMC’s intermediate cars.

Yup. My grandfather had a Matador and while I remember little of that car, I do remember the door handles. Pappy owned a Chrysler and a GMC pickup and traded in each on alternate years. He spoke to me once about how he could get up to speed in no time with the 440 in one of the Chryslers. He also spoke to me once of how he only got about 6 mpg in his pickup. We grandchildren rode all over Somerset County, Pennsylvania, in the back of those pickups. Late in his life, he bought that AMC and kept it for one cycle.

I remember them from my uncle’s Concord. How he managed to blow up an Iron Duke is beyond me.
