New NSX > Old NSX

WRX STI > Civic Type R > FoRS > Golf R

Kinja'd!!!

86 > MX5

And, for quite possibly the most controversial statement:

I don’t really like manual cars. Manuals don’t need to be saved. We’ll be fine with autoboxes and DCTs. Automatics aren’t shit anymore. For cheaper performance cars and bargain basement cars (Micra, Mirage, Spark, et cetera), a manual is still the better option I GUESS, but in everything else I’d go for the auto option.

Kinja'd!!!

Also, I agree with HondaFuck on the RX-whatever. Thing looks like a bad rendering.

I agree with you on the auto opinion. I am in stop and go traffic for almost all of my commute and I have no desire to shift constantly.

If you’d rather have a manual and you don’t have a physically limiting handicap, then you are not a real automotive enthusiast because you don’t like actually driving. If you want to be a passenger then don’t sit behind the steering wheel.

RX-Vision doesn’t look half as bad from that angle. Although half as bad is still very bad.

I don’t understand how wanting to/driving a manual makes someone more of an enthusiast than someone who drives an automatic.

To me it’s a desire to be envolved. When you drive a manual car you a functional component in the car. No to mention the added control of the way the car behaves.

But maybe I’m looking at things with to narrow a scope. You can be en auto move enthusiast who just likes looking at cars for their beauty and design, or maybe you just like wrenching on cars,or painting them, or maybe you just like being a member of a community. I’m arguing with my own asshole comments

Hey, a good part of debating is being able to point out flaws in your own argument and address them.

But yeah, I’d say you’re looking at too narrow a scope. Some people have only one car to fit multiple duties, so they’ll grab an automatic because driving with a clutch is a pain in the arse in traffic. Maybe the automatic is better (some manuals are garbage). Maybe a car isn’t offered with an automatic, or is impossible to find with a manual.

If you start trying to say “what makes a true automotive enthusiast is X”, you’ll find that everyone has a different definition. I mean, through yours about being involved, I could argue that since your car doesn’t have a hand crank to start it, you’re not involved and not an enthusiast. Others could say that you didn’t put it together from an old frame and parts, you’re not an enthusiast. Someone else could say that since you don’t drive a RWD vehicle, you’re not an enthusiast.

What I’m trying to get at is that everyone on Oppo is an automotive enthusiast, one way or another. Some of us work on our own vehicles and build them up, others enjoy racing and autocross, and some find beauty in how everything in a car works together. Just focusing on one aspect is kind of boring, since we all bring something different to the table.

Anyway, that was longwinded and unnecessary, so I hope you have a good Friday and weekend.

No. No. Yes. No. No.

Sure, the new NSX is “better” than the old one, but it’ll never have the “drop the mic” impact the old one had, or be so radically different-but-better.

Guess I’m just not a (recent) Scoobie fan, though older STi>older Evo. I’d pretty much reverse that sequence.

I bought the 86 so I have to be in that camp. Mainly because if I’m tracking a car I want tin above my head, though.

Manuals have their place; it’s just not in every car. If you go with “everything should be scrapped if something better exists”, then get ready to give up driving altogether in about 3 years: computers>humans

I really like the RX. The proportions are stupidly exaggerated, but so what - it’s a show car. I like the Maybach coupe too.

Not to disagree or anything and I hate to feed the fire, but you outlined the exact reasons to save the manual. Maybe for some people that is their love of cars and their reason to drive and that alone is reason enough to save the manual. Anyways, I digress since I’m just a Geartronic-driving maniac.

Yayyyy! Backwards downshifts for the win!

But k, that’s the beauty of opinions I guess.
