My pal at work has a 2003 accord pushing 270k miles. It keeps putting along but not without some standard issues for a beat car with a lot of miles.

A few weeks ago the button for the automatic shifter popped out, so now you have to get your finger in there and find the shifter’s G spot in order to change gears.

Most recently he used the handbrake...and now it’s on forever. I have not tried anything yet. He has tried driving it around the lot to no avail. I’m not sure weather its discs or drums in the back, but I’m suspecting drums.

Any suggestions?

What does the handle do? Move freely? Stuck upward?

Check the handle and then get under it and check the cables. Spray/lubricate where appropriate.

I think the handbrake is on the rear wheels on these cars. I’d definitely look at the pistons.

Mine was messing up/making a shit ton noise for a while and everything seemed fine. So I just yanked it all out. Try that.

If thats even possible on his car.

Move freely. It’s stuck in our parking lot at work and I’m not even close to dressed appropriately to work on a car. I can take a wheel off and have a look, but any more than that and we’ll be calling AAA.

If the handle is moving freely then the pistons are disconnected. Could be a wire that broke off or disconnected. If you take the wheel off you should have a good view of the braking system.
