Politics has, in many ways, become unreasonable. If someone is an R and the other is a D, today’s mindset is that they must hate each other.
Let’s get back to the days of disagreeing with each other on the Congress floor and laughing about it later over Scotch. Respect each other for our accomplishments. Agree to disagree, and to hold the other in high regard.

The essence of governance, at least in our Republic, is compromise. If nobody gets everything they want, it’s probably a pretty good deal. It’s only a recent development that if a party doesn’t get everything they want they pick up their toys and go home. It’s very sad and frustrating. Our government has forgotten how to govern. And we now have a president who has no interest compromise. He’s profoundly insecure, and not used to people saying “No” to him.

I think the main “problem” is how the matters nowadays are not just economic policy or military stance. Rs and Ds cannot stand each other because the R’s care too much about where other people stick their genital parts and who they love, and deny any shred of science and all seem to legislate on behalf of their imaginary friends. There is no common sense in the Republican party, and that is a problem.

The same can be said about Ds, mind you. Too busy playing identity politics, dumping money into social programs that used to be a hand up and not a permanent situation, and focusing on making the rest of the world happy while threatening blue collar workers (putting coal miners out of business).
I say all of that as glimpse into what others think. Neither party has a monopoly on both good ideas or stupidity.

But these are all economic policies, they can be discussed, I can talk with someone that disagrees with me on most social programs and share a laugh later. The Dems and Reps have different stances on that and that is fine.
I cannot however talk to someone who completely denies science, people who see the LGBT community as non-humans and put their imaginary friends above the people. This is the lack of common-sense I’m talking about.

I agree with you 100%.
That being said, all I want is for everyone to not hate each other. I want everyone to have access to proper healthcare. I want veterans to receive the treatment they deserve. I want tuition rates to decrease.
If there were Republican politicians who promised to do exactly those things, I’d vote for them in a heartbeat. If there were Democratic politicians who promised to do exactly those things, I’d vote for them in a heartbeat.
But unfortunately politicians, presidential candidates or otherwise, have become too blinded by the finish line that they no longer see the men, women, and children on the sidelines.
