I am thinking seriously of taking a look at this, largely because the price is so low, but what am I getting myself into?

Price looks OK. I like the old plates. Seats appear to have experienced the typical issue of MBs of this period, seat stuffing has deteriorated, which makes the upholstery look baggy. At this age, any car can leak or burn oil, be leery of that, along with typical suspension wear, electric things not working, etc. Take it for a 20 minute drive at all speeds - if it goes and stops, might be a worthy toy.

Before my time, sorry. All I can really say is that most anything rubber will be worn out, including bushings, boots, and diaphragms.

No details, low price, few pictures... that’s Craigslist for ya.

But speaking of which - since when did they start doing high-res (sorry, “high”-res) images on Craigslist??! That’s a serious game changer and quite pleasing. Sucks for the crappy cars whose rust spots are gonna show with decent sized photos uploaded :P
(yeah yeah California... must be nice)

As for the car itself, don’t know too much about it. There’s a stupidly minimal amount of information on that post but I mean, I guess something that cheap is probably gonna sell with or without good details (upfront).
Besides that first impression, seems cheap and in surprisingly good shape.
Like somebody else said, those era MB diesels are famous but I have no idea about their non-diesels. Ignorantly optimistically, maybe they’re pretty good but they just fly under the radar because they’re way overshadowed by the diesels?
