So going down the Wikipedia rabbit hole I stumbled across the M26, the US military’s 12 ton tractor trailer during WW2. First, I want one, because reasons. Here it is in all its glory. What’s not to love? 6x6, crew cab, removable top, and all the torques.

Kinja'd!!!

There is an up-armored version too called the M25.

Kinja'd!!!

The engine specs are on the order of slowly pull your house down with out breaking a sweat power level. From Wikipedia, “powered by a Hall-Scott 440 1,090 cu in (17.9 L) 6-cylinder gasoline engine developing 240 hp (180 kW) at 2000 rpm and 810 lbf·ft (1,098 N·m) at 1200 rpm”

So what was the nickname for this magnificent beast?

The Dragon Wagon!

This gets my vote for best nickname.

The “Dragon Wagon” nickname has carried over to the newer HEMTT as well.

Also, I like to say “Studebaker Water Weasel”.

In all my years of reading about WWII and looking at obscure photos of WWII, I have never seen that vehicle. Reminds me a bit of the HEMMT, which didn’t get a cool nickname, but the HEMTT is a single unit, not a tractor.

Did you see this?

I have never seen a vehicle that looked less like a weasel than that thing.

1090 cubic inch engine developing 240 HP...sounds like it needs some turbas!

Yea, but 810 ft-lbs of torque, and a less stressed engine is probably a good thing for military vehicles

Is that supposed to be reference to the M25 or the HEMTT? And how in the world did you come up with that nickname?

HEMTT = Dragon Wagon also, in modern parlance, as a carryover from the topic of your post. I provided as an aside that I had a favorite “silly name” of a military vehicle as well. The M29 Weasel was a US tracked vehicle of WWII built by Studebaker, hence commonly “Studebaker Weasel” and came in several variants, such as the Water Weasel and Snow Weasel.

Master Mario’s post does not have a weasel of any kind in it, I was just saying that was a favorite silly name for a vehicle. This one and its variants:

Ahhh...I get what you were trying to say now. Haha. Studebaker Water Weasel is probably the most fun nickname, but I still say Dragon Wagon is much cooler

According to my internet sleuthing 5 3/4" pistons x 7" stroke and apparently there is a V12 version that is basically 2 straight 6 engines mated

I know what you’re talking about and I’m saying that the Studebaker Water Weasel is the vehicle that least resembles a weasel out of all the vehicles I’ve ever seen.

Actually, if you squint, the treads could be sort of round and long and weasel-like. It makes more sense if you think the name should be Weasel Chariot.

Studebaker Weasel Chariot

Yeah I’d buy one of those.
