Good morning Oppo! Here’s another unofficial QOTD to start off your morning! I’ve watched the absolutely awful Dodge Demon commercial while getting dressed this morning. There’s so much CGI (and a CGI animal-demon-thing at that) that it was pointless to ever film such a thing. Like, this is part of the reason FCA is bleeding cash like a shot to an artery.
Anyway, that got me to think, have I ever seen a worse commercial than this? The answer is, OH YEAH.
Meet the series of commercials GM billed as “You Need a Truck”. My favourite and the most horrendous, is the “Focus Group” commercial. The ad attempts to imply that you need to buy a truck because it makes you look attractive and successful...and thus you’ll get ALL THE WOMEN. Clearly, if you buy a Toyota you have small family jewels or something...Did they even realize the shallow, superficial narrative they were trying to push?
I mean come on, kids too?

I still think nothing tops the Chevy ads in terms of horribleness.
I almost liked the Demon teaser. I don’t know. Still not as good as one of their original hellcat commercials.

The Gm commercials are the worst but that tagline on the Demon ad.

Auto ad’s have become terrible in general. No longer do they give you any appreciable details of what they’re trying to sell you. No specs, no real information. Instead, they usually try to convey a feeling, and hope your emotion alone will convince you to buy buy buy.

All of the “real people” themed Chevy ads (the truck one is in the same vein) are just awful, maybe the worst car ad campaign of my lifetime.
Toyota ads touting the “bold” Camry, “exhilarating” Prius, “adventurous” RAV4 etc should be considered some kind of false advertising on par with VW’s over-prosecuted claims.
Subaru’s touchy-feely “love” theme can ring hollow - it’s a profit-driven multinational industrial firm just like any other (and a lifestyle object in the PNW).
I recall feeling disdain for dbaggy Nissan ads of the not too distant past.
Honda’s Mr. Opportunity was fingernails on a chalkboard.
What about ads that are bad but amusing? I like the old Ford Granada MB-themed ads:

Dodge is usually really good with commercials too, which is weird to take this route. I think it would have been better for them to do teaser shots, maybe a car being under a cover in the cage...something other than the weird transformer demon thing with a flash of Challenger headlamps/tyres in between shots.

All current Chevy ads are terrible. Subaru “Love” comes in a close second. The poor, lonely Mistubshi Outlander ad with all the “spokespeople”. Any ad showing people hovering their foot under the rear bumper of anything.
For print ads, the ads launching the Infinity brand were really bad.
