Quinnipiac’s latest poll paints a similar picture: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2017/01/10/this-new-poll-has-all-kinds-of-bad-news-for-donald-trump

Unfortunately, he’s not really especially constrained by popularity right now.

So I’m not going to say I have any idea what the public thinks about Trump. 100% could like him or 100% could hate him. I don’t care.

What I do find suspect are the political motives behind those involved in polling and reporting, and that people are so willing to ignore facts and collusion if it fits with what they want to believe.

Case and point, the #FakeNews!!111!11! dumped into the world by the likes of Buzzfeed and CNN today because they liked that 4chan’s fan fiction made Trump look bad.

And today, as that story ruins the credibility of the most anti-Trump networks, you post an article from almost a month ago in a strange google pdf and say the Wallstreet Journal has declared that Trump isn’t that popular. In reality, the article is merely reporting that CBS’s polling found Trump to have a modest popularity rating. The same CBS polling that said Hillary would win by 9+ percent. The same CBS that was found to be colluding with the DNC on polling talking points. Are we supposed to just forget all of that now that Trump is president and trust them to tell us what most Americans think?

So yeah, not sure I have a point other than...

Seriously. Haven’t we had enough of fake polls from the fake news people proclaiming fake claims based on their fake unbiased positions?

Not that I expect this year to be good. In fact, I expect we’re on the precipice of a 2-3 year long recession, if not worse. Not due to Trump, mind you, but due to all the QE and can kicking that has been going on since 2007, inflating bubbles that make past ones look minor... We’re in for a world of hurt when this stuff starts unwinding.

I am actually hoping that Trump decides to default on the national debt. It doubled under Obama and would be poignant. With grade F credit, the US couldn’t take out loans to do crazy shit, but without paying half the federal tax revenue out in interest, he could just hire 1 in 10 people in this country to build a wall or whatever other crazy thing he comes up with. Couldn’t be much worse than where we are now, honestly.

Kinja'd!!! "whoarder is tellurium" (whoarder)
01/11/2017 at 22:23, STARS: 0

I think that could be why Trump is in such a panic mode to get things done. We have to get things functional on multiple levels... ASAP.

I don’t think it would be wise to default... but we are in this for a long long time. The “recovery” so far has been a joke.

Those polls were right. It’s just the states Hilary won, she won by a metric shit ton. The ones Trump won where by the skin of his teeth. So it really was because of the electoral college.

We haven’t really had a recovery. Obama said it was the longest one in history during his farewell speech, but it has been nothing but cooking the numbers to get the UI rates they’ve been claiming. If it was a recovery, it was the slowest one we’ve ever seen combined with the worst decline in the labor participation rate since they began collecting data on it. Under GWB it declined for the first time during an administration from 67.2% to 66% over 8 years. Under Obama is declined from 66% to 62.8%, which are levels we haven’t seen since 1977 (when most women were still homemakers)...

How do you not weight your results based on the state they came from? The electoral college technically worked exactly as it was planned to work when it was created. It was designed to keep large-population states from controlling the government at the expense of other states.

Honestly, if I were to do it again, I’d take the population of each state, divide evenly, and issue electoral votes evenly to each state. That would make it a combination of the will of the populations and the states. It’s unreasonable that the president (the leader of our armed forces) would only pay attention to heavily-populated areas.

01/11/2017 at 23:31, STARS: 0

Yeah it did work as it should. If it was by the popular vote Hilary would’ve won, but only because New York and Cali went hard for her.

Your second paragraph is pretty much how’s it’s set up. It’s based on how many representatives they have in Congress, which is based on population.

01/11/2017 at 23:34, STARS: 0

Actually, I think that’s what you’re saying; I only proposed the boolean operator AND .

My opinion is thus: if we have a big political swing so that liberal politics are abruptly changed to conservative politics, I’m fine with that — even if I’m not in agreement -- but what bothers me is what a completely unqualified, insecure , and rude man Donald Trump is. I think the country may wind up soon pining for the Clinton era for its relative lack of scandal. Actually, why don’t you mark my words so I can say I called it.

I think folks on both sides of the aisle will soon be pining for the scandal-free Clinton days. This wasn’t even a salvo. This was just a flare.

NPR said Trump was “on the attack” during his first press conference. I say he was on the defensive. A profoundly insecure man.

I’ve been following the Sessions grilling with some interest. I think he has requited himself well, even he did not do so earlier in his career. Someone said Cory Booker began his 2020 presidential campaign today. Good on ‘im, says I.
