Kinja'd!!!

Especially for a car that can get to 60 in around 6 seconds and has no electric motors...

Have you done the math on your fuel economy to see if that is accurate? It is certainly not accurate in my M3.

I did the math at the pump and I calculated 40.5 so it was a little off, but not by much

Whatcha driving? That’s some impressive fuel economy.

That’s less than 1%, not enough to really be significant. I don’t like when people just blindly trust the economy gauge. It may be right, it also may be wildly inaccurate.

I thought you were kidding about the module, but apparently it’s real.

It’s real and, perhaps even more surprising, it pretty much works as advertised.

My old F150 would be off my as much as 10% which is why I still verify at the pump before I go bragging on my car. I don’t understand how the numbers on the vehicle can be so inaccurate - I mean how hard is it to calculate distance over fuel consumed?

I think mine is off because the speedometer reads about 4-5% high. Should be a simple calculation for a modern car, because it knows the fuel rate and the speed. There could be some rounding errors in there, but it should still be within a percent or so.

The car is measuring injector duration to calculate fuel flow rate. If it’s got a fuel pressure sensor, that helps a lot, but otherwise it’s relying on the fuel pump and pressure regulator to be accurate.

Then, various factors can affect fuel density, also affecting the accuracy of those calculations...

Is your odometer off by 4-5% though? Speed shouldn’t be a factor - especially since BMW programs their speedometers to be 3mph optimistic from the factory. There’s even a setting in the KOMBI module to disable the higher reading (BC_V_KORREKTUR).

My odometer is fine. It depends on how the car determines fuel economy, if it used instantaneous speed and instantaneous fuel rate and does it that way, it matters what speed it uses.

My ZHP was off by 1-1.5mpg(always optimistic) right up until I replaced the fuel injectors at 170k miles, after that it was bang on for about 30k miles, but some error has started to creep back in at 218k(usually off by 0.5 mpg +/- 0.2). My guess is the errors come about from the injectors no longer being as precise as they were new.

After reading a bit on it and some post on Bimmerpost, was tempted to get it, but then now I remember my no-mod vow, and all money is going towards Valka’s timing chain fund. Because, you know, N20 timing chains and tensioners.

Had the race chip Ultimate on my M235i. Those piggybacks all make great gains.
