I know you guys like furniture so here is one of mine. Its a simple table for a food pantry in a lower income neighborhood and will offer nutrition and cooking lessons to lower income kids 12 and up. Its curved to fit again the rear wall of the kitchen and can be wheeled out for cooking demonstrations.

Kinja'd!!!

its not the most glamorous table ever invented, but it is fun to do something a little different.

It’s all about that fifth wheel.

do u know why its called the 5th wheel when there are more than 4 wheels? I’m guessing it has nothing to do with the actual wheel count?

I don’t like those innermost casters with only one-axis bracing. A good bang against a floor obstruction, and you might swing one off.

I did not, so I asked wikipedia;

The term fifth wheel comes from a similar coupling used on four-wheel horse-drawn carriages and wagons. The device allowed the front axle assembly to pivot in the horizontal plane, to facilitate turning. Basically a wheel was placed on the rear frame section of the truck, which back then only had four wheels; this wheel that was placed on the frame was the “fifth wheel”, hence the name. The trailer needed to be raised so that the trailer’s pin would be able to drop into the central hole of the fifth wheel.

I figured it was of some historical significance. Looks like it does have something to do with wheel count, but nothing to do with wheel count on trucks.

I do know that 5th wheel grease is super sticky and that you don’t want to get it on your coveralls.

It’s a low budget project and the average contractor needs to be able to build it

Yep, sometimes those kind of constraints lead to the best designs.
