The axle would most likely drag. In a best case scenario, it’ll just severely slow you down until you decide to pull over. Worst case, axle bounces off the pavement, trailer loses control, and probably jackknife.

Tailgate or pull a trailer?
Sadly because of the exhaust placement on the E90 M3, it can’t tow things. I looked into this because at the time I wanted to get an M3 track car, then tow it to the track with an M3.

Depends a little on loads and on time. The extra bind on the interspring links and bolts could break things at way less than even the single axle capacity under the right circumstances. That’s not even counting the stability fuckage of different springing left to right.

I’ve had a wheel come off a dual-axle trailer with a 3000# boat on it. The drum brake on the axle came about 1" from the pavement. So... any bump in the road whatsoever would have been a big problem. I was able to pull over right away, and was only on a side street going maybe 25. Very lucky.

The tire on that side is seriously overloaded now. If he was smart, he’d replace them both on that side. Since he’s driving without one, he’d probably not that smart.
That said, let’s give the guy the benefit of the doubt. Let’s say the trailer tire popped this morning, and he has a job to do. He’s self-employed, so if he doesn’t go to work, then he doesn’t get paid. I’d do the same thing if I were him ... but I’d drive REALLY slowly and carefully and get those tires replaced on the way home.
